10 MORE Relaxing Tracks In Video Games

After the amazing feedback on the last piece, I’ve decided to give this topic another walk around the block. In the comments I saw a lot of great songs out there, and for the most part I agree; those are some pretty relaxing tracks you’ve suggested yourselves. Here are 10 more of my picks for...

I am myself. But it is inappropriate for me to subjectively define who I am. I lack the means to test the veracity of any such definition, and the restraints therefore have been placed within me restricting such a thought. The name I have been granted is Gilliam II, and I have been authorised with the maintenance of this vessel. Additionally, I will deliver news to you from various sources.

Ohhhhhhh SNAP! Majora's Mask made it onto this list. Don't nut too hard, Zemekis!

A song that’ll make you imagine life on the range, cooking over an open fire while the cattle graze not far off.
    Sounds like a Texan fantasy.

A lot of these tracks are pretty good. Only two of them are from current-gen games. Doesn't surprise me. Quality VGM is practically a lost art.

    Jim: "How do you know?"
    Gene: "I don't!"

Gene: "That's okay. There's a first time for everything!"

Very happy to log in today and get hit with something Majora's Mask related on my first thread click. It's a first here at OSN, but hopefully not the last. I really would like to talk about MM more but nobody ever bites, so here's my first shot (i'll keep it on-topic).

Romani Ranch is an excellent choice, but not even the best rendition of that exact song to select for that list. It does have a more southern vibe due to the instument choice, but the ideal would have been:

Romani Ranch is a light re-working of Lon Lon Ranch from Ocarina of Time. Side note: On the day of my highschool graduation I listened to this song and somehow that memory jumped back into my head after my last class for my Bachelor's degree, so I sat in my car and listened through before driving home. That cemented the tradition and I took a walk while listening to Lon Lon ranch when I got home from my final night of Grad School class. Deep connection to this song and all of its renditions.

Other contenders would be....Clock Town Day 2, this is likely my favorite track from MM, on Day 2 it always rains in game which gives this song a really cozy vibe if you've played the game:

Majora's Mask is really tough to source relaxing songs from, since the whole idea of the game is to be unsettling and there is even a constant time-limit to add a sense of panic/stress to all activities. It's the one game I know that was designed to be a stressful experience. Lots of people hated that, but for some reason I always appreciated that it was able to elicit such a strong emotion, whatever the emotion may be. As such, very few of the songs are relaxing.

I come back to Astral Observatory a lot too:

I guess the Indigo-Go's practice session could be counted as well:
"Out of the ground, raze all greenery with flame! Fire2!"

That Lon Lon Ranch music sure brings back some good memories. It must be nearly twenty years since I last played Ocarina of Time. To me, it's one of those odd examples of a video game or a film that was so spectacular you'd rather leave your fond childhood memories of it untouched. Somehow it doesn't have the same replay value as Link's Awakening for instance. Probably because it's a very immersive game, especially in the late 1990s. Going a bit off-topic, Twilight Princess was good but just wasn't the same in that regard. I don't really remember any of it. (On the other hand, I prefer Wind Waker and do remember that.) And yeah, Majora's Mask, I told you this already but I just didn't really like it. (I know I should give it another chance. I'm very rusty when it comes to Zelda.)

Link's Awakening had a decent overlooked soundtrack:

Let's hope that with the remaster, the classic OST won't fade into obscurity.

    Jim: "How do you know?"
    Gene: "I don't!"
    Jim: "I knew it."
Gene: "That's okay. There's a first time for everything!"
