3D Cockpit for the XGP 15A-II (aka Outlaw Star)

I started this several years back, my intention was to make a VR environment for relaxing in but I wasn't happy with the job I was doing modeling hard surface objects (I do a lot of organic/character modeling) and ultimately stopped working on it:

Sometime soon(ish) I'm hoping to redo and finish it up, complete with a little pink Gilliam bot to interact with.

This is really cool and I think you've got it spot on. It's been a very long time since I've done it, but if you need help with textures or the UVW map maybe I could contribute.

I always thought that if I ever got into making game mods (I was thinking of Halo at the time) I'd have to make one featuring the Outlaw Star and its cockpit. I was learning 3ds Max but that was back at university... around a decade ago.

Your idea makes me think of that Blade Runner VR experience.

The main point of it is being able to walk around the main character's (Deckard) apartment in VR which I find mind-blowing, but I never got a headset to actually try it out. Being able to do the same thing in the XGP cockpit would kick major ass.

Ah man the blade runner VR experience was excellent, sitting out on the balcony listening to the rain fall, watching cars zip by and that song play was something else, I spent a good 40 minutes or so lost in thought out there.

Yeah! 3D modeling definitely has a learning curve to it, somehow I managed to stick with it (using blender) after giving up/coming back to it over about 5-6 years.

I appreciate the offer, texturing won't be too tough it was trying to find good quality reference shots of the cockpit that held me up a lot when I first started it, assuming I can finish this, it'd be neat to model something like the caster gun with a working chamber for loading and firing the different caster shells, in fact that sounds like something I might start on tonight.

Either way whatever I get finished, I'll be sure to share it here/publicly too.

Just stopping by to say i'll be monitoring this as well. If anything will make me take the financial hit for a VR headset, it would be this. Super cool project!!
