A lot of us tend to love Japanese music. It's part of anime after all, often times. But do you like other kinds of music too from around the world? :D

Honestly, I'm not big on English language music much. But I really like music from Japan, Italy and Russia. A couple of my favorite artists are Elisa Toffoli and tATu. I tend to really like their other language work just as much if not more than the English stuff.

Also, singers, remember this well: If you sing in another language than what the people around you know, they won't know when you mess up! Less anxiety! :D That made me love being in World Harmony Chorus.

I must admit that while there are bands that sing in language I don't understand (I'm looking at you, Rammstein!) mainly I still do want to understand what they're singing about. Music can works as sole music, sure, but usually lyrics do carry some story or a message anyways - they wouldn't be there if they didn't!

So I'm not switching the song if a catchy one that I don't understand comes up, but I really prefer to understand what the singer is saying. Otherwise I feel like only getting half of the enjoyment of music.

I can understand that feeling for certain, Agame! I tend to end up looking up the translation of lyrics to songs that I really enjoy but don't really know the language. It's easy nowadays, thanks to google and the net, but it was likely a lot harder in earlier years. It makes me thankful for such easy access.

I enjoy some French electro and indie stuff. In particular music that comes out of the Record Makers label such as Sebastien Tellier and Kavinsky. They seem to draw lots of inspiration from the 80's, particularly movies and even video games. However, they tend to also produce songs that have more global appeal and is not specifically aimed at the French market. I've noticed many of their music videos are receiving tons of views and comments from folks all around the world.

I'm gonna stop you right there...Kavinsky is awesome! He definitely has deep inspiration from Daft Punk, which is on my Top 10 favorite bands list.

I'm starting to listen to more French music now that I can understand the language a little more. It's still mostly CÚline Dion but I've branched out beyond her.

Cool thread. I like to listen to music to get interested into learning a language. From my dad, I would hear queen, eagles, Santana; and also liked some of Def Leppard's songs. Listened to Gackt and eurobeat-type jpop back then when starting anime. When getting into Asian dramas, I listened to Mandopop like joking tsai. I was big into kpop back then too and especially since I was in Korea during the whole Gangnam Style thing getting big. Hungarian and German pop was interesting to listen to and Brazilian Bossa Nova is great too.
