...so we don't get this when browsing older (even recent) threads:

Seriously, the "Retrieve remote file and reference locally" option is your friend. I won't get mad at you, even for uploading big fat GIF animations. The site has plenty of storage space, so upload away. Nobody likes a 404 error, so there's no point in trusting sites like Imgur. I remember seeing in an old post that a picture of Gene I uploaded to "TinyPic" years ago was replaced with a photo of a bloody crane. Sorry Gene. :( (So you see the problem now?)

The only reason I don't use attatchments is because I don't like how they format in the posts. It works fine on the phone app, since you can format the image as you would with a link, but most of the time I'll be posting from my computer and don't like how they only attatch to the bottom of the post, unless I'm missing something? :swanzothinking: Not sure what that option is you're talking about...

Hari, you might be doing it wrong. You don't actually use the attachments at the bottom. When you click the IMG icon you either upload or enter the URL which you can upload to the site with the checkbox checked. Then it will add the attachment inline instead of at the bottom. I think Asher figured it out.

Okay! I've figured it out now. I had to go into my settings to adjust some stuff, I only had the 'basic editor' which made additional formatting tedious as hell, but it's all good now. :oldmanlaugh:

I think I only have the basic editor (in quick reply) unless I go to advanced mode. I wonder if this might be a bug...

Might there be a public database of all images uploaded as attachments, or are they held exclusively for whoever uploaded them?

I never looked into it, but I've just tested this. Your latter assumption is the correct one. Only the administrator (maybe moderators too, not sure) have access to all attachments, whereas normal members have their own list. Also, attachments must soon be stored in a post or they'll be deleted automatically. (Usually not a problem since everybody attaches for a post anyway!) This is all the case with vBulletin. It could be different for other forums running different software.

If your former assumption was correct I'd be a little concerned since I upload all my manga pages as attachments. Thanks for reminding me to check this out. :D
