Alright, after seeing a good number of these I couldn't resist anymore.

It's 22 degrees in Austin today.
Nearly froze my nipples off. :S
BUT! I have my trusty coat and homemade scarf.
So I survive to freeze another day.

Battlestar Galactica marathon kept me up till the wee hours yesterday.
So I got up a 11 am today, breakfast on the fly.
Been running and gunnin' all day after my late start.

Japanese was first, it was fine.
Learned some new phrases.
"Is this a margarita? No? GARH!"

Then came Russian Sci-fi and Lit.
Learned that you can commit suicide in a duel.
Fancy that.

Had to take a bonus RTF Production class so I can volunteer for the school TV station.
Learned to use a camera again.

Which made me late for Biology.
I still can't understand my TA's accent.
Figuring out his words keeps me awake though.
He gave us a quiz, :S

Last event of the day was a meeting for the TV show I'm hoping to work on.
We introduced ourselves by picking an AILF (Animal I'd like to...) and what song to make love by.
It's going to be sweet though.
Going to make some awesome shorts with my buddy.

Now, after the homework of course,
I'm chilling on OSUK,
watching season 4.5 of Battlestar Galactica,
and doing the nightly push ups.
Oo-rah. 8)

3rd February 2011, 08:56 AM
Sounds like a decent day. I've been meaning to check out Battlestar Galactica/Stargate. I never get round to it though. Ooh, learning Japanese, huh? I used to in a beginner's class. I'd really like to start learning again as I've forgotten more or less everything I had learned. After all, it was over five years ago. Sounds like you enjoy learning languages a lot.

Dr. Killjoy
3rd February 2011, 04:47 PM
Japanese is apparently one of the toughest languages to learn if you're a native English speaker.

Russian scifi sounds pretty interesting, but the only one I can think of off the top of my head is We. I may have to look into the subject, any recommendations?

3rd February 2011, 05:55 PM
Twas indeed.
You really should, they're both great shows that I've been watching this school year.
Stargate is definitely the lighter of the two, but you peg me as more the serious type.
Battlestar should be right up your alley.
It's fun, I'm actually doing it to read the Outlaw Star manga. :D

@The Good Doctor:
We is actually a required reading.
I would recommend another one of our texts to you.
It's calls Worlds Apart. It is more of a study of Russian Lit.
However, if you skip the boring analysis and read the actual stories it's pretty sweet.
We are reading this novella called Heart of a Dog, I'll let you know if it's any good.

About Japanese, yes it is.
Kanji is the devil. However my friend actually found a list of the hardest languages.
Basque took numero uno, Japanese took fifth just before Russian.

5th February 2011, 04:26 AM

Class was canceled today due to icy conditions.
Texans freak when it snows. :D
Which means I got to sleep in for a good long time.
Day didn't start till 12.

Went to the post office again, this time with friends.
They actually had my package this time.
Twas my retainer, I had left it elsewhere you see and had it sent back to me.

We continued our hike in 20 degree weather to ye ol' bus stop.
Waited about 50 minutes for the darn thing.
Brought us to the car so that we could go gallivanting.

Ended up a Taco Cabana, "More food less dinero!"
I accidentally threw my retainer away with the trash.
Did not realize this until we had already left for Barnes and Noble.

Dropped off my buddies and rushed back to the restaurant.
They showed me where they kept the trash pending dumpster throw out.
Unfortunately they were unsure of which one contained the pricey dental appliance.
I searched through two garbage bags with trusty plastic gloves.
Found it!
The folks their were also nice enough to lend me some disinfectant.

Got back to my peeps.
The book store had closed early due to the weather.
Pfft, pansies.

We returned to campus, and attempted to park at a garage.
Their ticket distribution machine which allows entry was malfunctioning.
To make matters worse, there wasn't an attendant in sight.
Had to finagle a way in.

So yeah, it's been a interesting day.

5th February 2011, 04:39 AM
XD sounds like a weather control device that has a 'snow' button would be the ultimate doomsday device for Texas.

Dr. Killjoy
5th February 2011, 05:51 AM
Glad you got your retainer back, I'd hate to lose mine like that! I tend to be pretty paranoid with it.

Seems like we've got freakishly cold weather across the States - I mean, I'm pretty sure Hell freezes over more readily than does Texas. =P

5th February 2011, 06:26 AM
So very true you two.
A blizzard in Texas is the first sign of the apocalypse. o_O

Yep dug it out of a tortilla, soda, and guacamole mush. :P

5th February 2011, 07:28 AM
This is really random but as long as this the 'Asher' journal
http://i661.photobucket.com/albums/uu338/Chocoboknight99/motivator7e36887046041ac54ebc5c132b6d743bee589736. jpg

5th February 2011, 12:43 PM
Haha, inside joke, how cheesy. :P I find it interesting how Asher writes his posts like poems.

6th February 2011, 03:39 AM
I figure that it makes the posts easier of the eye.

Masaka, having myself compared to Chuck Norris is most epic!
I think my favorite is AsherTheMother$#%&ingWilliams.
Followed closely by Asher Zergling Rush
Consider my day made. XD

Btw, I made the Inside Joke pic my desktop.

6th February 2011, 09:38 AM
Jack Bauer > Chuck Norris
(By far! :P)

7th February 2011, 12:43 AM
Sorry to de-rail here but as long as you're mentioning Jack Bauer

Sorry Asher, you may continue with your journal :P

7th February 2011, 01:05 AM
LMAO, what the hell?! XD

7th February 2011, 04:08 AM
That was crack on a cracker if I ever saw.

Yesterday I got up, found some chow,
and headed out to a friend of mine for an all-nighter.

We played countless hours of PS3.
He pwned me in Black Ops, Modnation Racers, and Dead Space 2. :'(
Which gave us the munchies so we hit up a Chinese Buffet.
(Your favorite Mantis. :P)

I find it funny how the trend now is for these "Chinese" places to carry sushi.
Pretty sure that is the dish of quite a different country.
And I'm pretty sure that they fake their poor English skills to drop my guard...
Regardless! There was something there that I thought was sad, but kinda poetic.

Now this place wasn't the most...high scale eatery.
Meaning that the usual clientele are not well-to-do, you know the type.
Well, there was this one guy.
He looked about 40, had a biker mustache goatee thing, it was sweet face fuzz.
What he did not have was a wedding ring, and he looked oddly distant as he ate.
Alone on a Saturday night eating low grade Chinese in a run down strip mall.
I really wish I knew his story.
His life may have been a delve into the beautifully depressing.
Like a great sad song that moves you more every time you hear it.

After that we went to the dollar store.
They had discount condoms, cookies named "Glass", and no decent tape measures.
The guy who ran it was pretty sweet though, it was neat hearing him speak what I think was Hindi to his son.
My friend and I, now full and armed with eye drops, headed back for another game session.

Time passed and we had the munchies again, this time for something sweet.
A quick run to Walley World, (I don't know if y'all have Wallmart in the UK.)
And we were back with the milk, snack cakes, brownies, and a tape measure.
Oh the fun we had.

The night ended at 3:30 am poking fun at a Time Life commercial for the deal of a lifetime.
Over 100 of the greatest love songs of the 80's. XD
For some reason my best buddy has a beef with Pat Benatar, he crazy.

Awoke today, had another quick round of Black Ops, and headed home instead of the university for the Sunday.
Was finally able to get a hot shower! :D (My dorm's hot water had failed.)

I cut my finger messing around with my anime cels so I could post them for you guys.
The frames I have have glass that cuts through a man like butter.

All and all though, got to spend some quality time with the folks and lady friend.
Now I write this overly long journal post for all y'all to skim.
I should really get to bed though.
I've got to be back at UT and in class at 12.
It's a 2.5 hour ride just to get back to Austin. :S[hr]
P.S. Jack Bauer is awesome to be sure.
Yet he is not worthy even to kiss Chuck's boot.

I enjoy these derailings Masaka. XD

8th February 2011, 03:38 AM
Wow, event filled day! Also, I just noticed that you reached notable outlaw rank! CONGRATZ!!!1111

XD I never even realized it 'till you mentioned it but, Chinese buffets ARE getting sushi bars all the time now. Strange.

8th February 2011, 04:00 AM
Thanks bro! Yep I have no life. :D

It's a conspiracy I swear.

9th February 2011, 02:55 AM

My luck is running out.

Went to breakfast yesterday, got some coffee to go for the ride back into town.
Spilled it in the car, not a single napkin in sight.
Had to use a sock to clean the mess on the fly.
Then, nearly at my destination, I got my first speeding ticket.
Now I owe money...lame.

Had an assignment due,
the selected page did not match up with the questionnaire.
I was forced to wing it.

Went to the gym today.
My head-phones busted on the way.
The old generic ones I had lasted longer.

And still, STILL no hot water in the dorm.
It's a cold shower for Asher tonight... :'(

9th February 2011, 03:00 AM
Sounds really rough:S. Cheer up though, with all those bad things happening, once something good happens, it will seem that much better in comparison right?

9th February 2011, 03:32 AM
Damn... Quite the eventful day there :( Hope tomorrow turns out better!!

9th February 2011, 05:12 AM
Thanks all. :D
Whelp, here's to hoping I get attacked by some hot Brazilian chicks tomorrow.

12th February 2011, 01:56 AM

This will be one of the few weekends that I'll actually stay at my dorm.
Usually I head back home to Tomball for laundry and my lady friend.
Yep, sorry ladies I'm taken.

Going to catch up on all the reading for class that I've been putting off. :'(
There's just something about film class course packets that turn me off.
Anyway, I'll also be spending the weekend working on new amvs for the upcoming con.
It's going to be sweet.

Right now I'm working on a Cowboy Bebop amv set to Cage the Elephant's "Ain't no Rest for the Wicked."
It's coming along well...that is when I gather the determination to actually sit down and work on it.

Other than that, not much has gone on in my little world.
Did send off the stuff for that ticket though...fun.
And our friendly little abortion debate over in Blue Heaven has taken a lot out of me. :S
It's rough being the only pro-life fanatic over there.

Anyhow, until next time!
My love to all y'all!

12th February 2011, 06:40 AM
TGIF indeed! (Although I'm posting this on a Saturday but w/e)

I read the abortion debate topic a bit, I was going to give you some reinforcements for the pro-life side but since I'm only in High school, I feel like I would only hurt the debate. (Still have my support though :D)

12th February 2011, 03:01 PM
Don't worry about that,
it's just an opinion thing so you should post your thoughts if you so desire.
And thanks. :D

13th February 2011, 02:50 AM

I've got a rough test coming up.
A pile of work.
My girlfriend is mad at me.
And now folks are taking shots at my religion.

...red letter day right there.

13th February 2011, 10:16 PM

Finished my next amv at about...3:30 am?
Around there.
Kinda out of it now.

Mantis still has me beat for sleep issues though,
I suppose I can't complain.

Well anyway, I was quite happy with how it turned out.
The funny thing was that after I made it I check out YouTube to see if anyone has done something similar.

Sure enough,
there were about 5, 6 videos doing the same thing. XD
I prefer my take on it but, we'll see.

14th February 2011, 03:05 AM
hehe, think the best feeling in the world is right after you've done some project late at night and you can finally forget your worries and dose off. Think we'll be able to see that AMV =D?

14th February 2011, 03:09 AM
Amen to that my friend.

Well, since you asked. :D

*Edit: I updated the video to fix a discontinuity.
The sad thing is I'll probably do another fix soon.
Moral of the story: don't rush your endings.

14th February 2011, 03:28 AM
weeeeeeee, that was awesome! Makes me miss Cowboy Bebop, and I totally forgot about Mad Pierrot XD. Also, Baconman31629 is probably the best Youtube username in the world.

31692 w/e same difference :|

14th February 2011, 03:55 AM
Glad you enjoyed it.
Pierrot Le Fou has always been my favorite episode.
Your flattery is greatly appreciated. :D

14th February 2011, 06:49 AM
Such an amazing show asher, you did it some justice. There are some good lip syncs in there too! that stuff is hard as hell to pull off, and takes a lot of patience... :D

16th February 2011, 06:29 PM

Two fun moments from yesterday.

Went to the day after Valentine's sale at the local CVS.
Picked up a tasty chocolate heart with strawberry marsh mellow filling for 1/2 half.
I was in the process of eating it when I coughed.
From just the right position, a chunk of chocolate logged itself into my nasal cavity.
It hurt like a *****!
The silver lining of it all, the scent of chocolate lingered for several hours. o_O

Later I went to a Japanese gift shop to find something for my lady friend.
Twas then that I found out that it was actually tea shop.
In a whirlwind of fast talk and confusion I ended up with a sickly sweet milk tea with gelatin inside and a spicy rice ball.
Walked out very confused, without a gift, and kinda nauseous. :S

17th February 2011, 10:42 PM
Oh dang man, that chocolate story is going to haunt me whenever I eat chocolate now.

22nd February 2011, 05:58 PM

Had a great weekend at the homestead.
My lady friend was more clingy than normal,
which makes me happy.

Saw Unknown,
I heard it was Taken 2 for those of you who enjoy Liam Neeson.
Wasn't quite that, but it was a fun ride none-the-less.

Uneventful ride back to university, thank the Lord.
Keepin' the poh poh at bay!

Now my classmate is making me his Magic the Gathering protege.
Geekiness levels rising! XD
I'm even thinking about delving a little into D&D.
Which begs the question...

You guys have any geeky hobbies?

1st March 2011, 06:08 PM

Only thing worth noting recently.
I lived a cliche!

"Waiter! There's a fly in my soup!"

Felt special, livin' the dream.
Thai noodle bowl...but it had broth so it counts!

15th March 2011, 03:44 AM

Had some virtual accomplishments today.

Got to round 27 on nazi zombies solo.
Completed the National Pokedex on Soul Silver.

Now I am ready for White. 8)

15th March 2011, 12:22 PM
You guys have any geeky hobbies?

Not anything that involves scribbling down pages and pages of notes or collecting a bunch of stuff that's in play for about 35 seconds, no. I did once play Warhammer Quest (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warhammer_Quest), but not in any serious fashion; we spent most of the time bullying the Dwarf and leaving him behind "in the dark", not to mention discovered we'd been making up 90% of the rules as we played.

15th March 2011, 08:29 PM
Were you well compensated for the fly incident? :P I ought to complete Soul Silver. I don't know if I can be bothered with Black/White. Too many Pokémon that have terrible names or... are just terrible. A honeycomb Pokémon... a trash can Pokémon? Living, breathing inanimate objects. XD

Gold/Silver was the best for the Game Boy Colour

21st March 2011, 06:17 PM
Truthfully, I was too amused by this to bring it to the waiter's attention.
Just picked her out, and finished the meal.

Sounds like a good time. :D

23rd March 2011, 06:41 PM

Spring Break!!!
...last week. :'(

Some fun stuff went on there.
Had my day of birth.
19 woot!
I was tickled to get a little message from this site.
Aww, you guys. :D

Grandma-ma came down from Carolina to pay me a few days visit.
Showed her UT, took her around my new found stomping grounds.
...on St. Patrick's day. :S
Austin's freaks were out in force.

Near the end of the break,
I took my lady friend to Anime Matsuri, the local anime con.
Had a great time, founds some great merchandise.
Even won the amv competition, the comedy category.
...being the only entrant. XD
Anyway, I was just glad to get four of my amvs up there for others to see.
They went over well, I would say.

For you guys!
There was a cosplay contest.
Overall, the contestants knew what they were doing.
There was an appearance by our favorite siblings.
Alas! I was unable to catch up to them for a pic.
Sorry fellas. :'(

Currently I've been enjoying Shogun 2, it's very sweet.
Putting those darn Tokugawa in their place. 8)

Apart from games,
I am determined to properly complete a Gundam model I picked up at the con.
Shadow (Spiegal) Gundam from G-Gundam in fact.
Went ahead and bought: paint, primer, clippers, sanders, and brushes.
Never done one all out before.
IT'S ON!!! :P

23rd March 2011, 10:16 PM
I'm glad you had a good birthday. Haha, the only entrant for the AMV competition? I guess it wasn't a very popular con, then..? Ah, the MacDougall Brothers? That's awesome. :P It really is too bad you couldn't get a pic!

I look forward to seeing the finished Gundam model!

24th March 2011, 05:45 PM
The only one in the comedy bracket, but yeah.
There were folks out the wazoo,
too bad the hotel hallways were painfully tight. :S

I tried to hunt them down,
but they, true to their characters, vanished as quickly as they came.
You don't find the MacDougal Brothers...they find you. o_O

It's going to be sweet...well...
as long as I don't f-up the paint job.

28th March 2011, 06:32 PM

Went to a Renaissance Fest last Saturday.
Twas awesome mi'lords!
Got a nifty feather in my cap.
A few tasty cigars.
And got to see some great performers.

My little group was roped into watching a juggling comedian.
Little did he know what he was in for.
He called upon me to be an assistant and juggled on my shoulders.
All the while, making little jests and my 'training' over the years allowed me to roll it.
Every now and again catching the poor dude by surprise.
My favorite moment was when he was climbing up,

He asked "When was the last time you had a man on top of you."
I looked at him and said, "Three hours ago."
Stunned him for a second. XD

Was a great weekend.

24th June 2011, 06:31 PM

Long time no post.
Eh, laziness I must confess.

So I had finished the model from a while ago.
Took me this long to gather the determination to upload the pics.
Tis a fail indeed.

Here are some early moments in the build.

Here y'all can see more of the interior details.
I was quite impressed with the little things this model set emphasized.
Almost left the thing in its skeletal structure to show off the little intricacies.

Here are some poses of the finished Shadow Gundam Master Grade model from good ol' G-gundam.

Some close ups of the core lander.
Painting the pilot was a challenge. XD

So painted the whole sucker myself,
which explains the many instances of paint fail you will see on the full size images.

Learned some valuable lessons during this project.
1. Never primer moving joints, that's just asking for trouble.
2. Primer is extremely flammable.
3. White paint is never your friend.

To end this picture logged entry here's a neat Outlaw Star motivational poster I stumbled across.
I do believe y'all will appreciate the sentiment it gives.

1st September 2011, 04:32 AM
Long time, no post.
Déjŕ vu.

It's back to the grindstone.
Now that the summer break has ended I'm back at university. :D
Takin' care of bit'ness.

The only major update of late that's of any pertenience here is my new amv!
Yay!! XD
Just finished today.
It's a fun romp with the classic Golden Boy.
A short yet profound series worth checking out by the way.
The vid features one of my first favorite bands, Queen!
And their timeless song "Bicycle Race".
Please watch!
I would appreciate it.

1st September 2011, 05:02 AM
That shadow gundam is awesome! :D And being completely honest, I'm in love with your amv! This show looks good, going to add it to my list to watch.

1st September 2011, 05:41 AM
Took forever to finish.
Got paint everywhere. :P

You're too kind my friend.

2nd September 2011, 01:06 AM
Your welcome :D

Now its been a while since I've watched G Gundam but is the pilot of Shadow Gundam the guy that tells domon to cut a tree with a rusty sword? XD

2nd September 2011, 01:44 AM
I must admit that model is pretty cool. Good job man, and good luck with uni.

2nd September 2011, 03:23 AM
Much obliged. :D

31st January 2012, 08:50 PM

This update is long overdue.
My pour soul has been suffering an intense case of lethargy.
I have resolved to do more: read more, amv craft more, watch more, exercise more,
and most importantly OLSUK more. 8)

Other than lofty ambitions.
I've been plugging away again at university since winter break ended.
We're finally working with real cameras now.

She's a good little girl.
Designed for wartime filmmakers in midst of battle.
You can feel the heft and quality in the thing.

Besides that my other classes:

Medieval Warfare

Imperial Japan

Screen Writing

Japanese Year II

It's gonna be a sweet semester.

31st January 2012, 09:49 PM
Don't push yourself too hard man :P Loving the camera. Any chance you'll be able to upload some of your shots?! And the medieval warfare class sounds pretty awesome ^^

1st February 2012, 12:34 AM
I have not been pushing myself enough I think.
But sure, I'll upload what I can.
Might even be entertaining.

And it is, it really is. :D

1st February 2012, 03:31 PM
I have resolved to do more: read more, amv craft more, watch more, exercise more, and most importantly OLSUK more.

Similar to my goals, then. That camera looks rather... interesting. I hope your lethargy won't be so much of a problem in the near future. 'Tis a bitch. I'm liking your classes. Imperial Japan seems rather intriguing.

1st February 2012, 09:46 PM
It's pretty neat.
Just got let out of that class actually.
Watched a good bit from Imamura Shohei's Eijanaika.
More regular classes should show movies...

By the way, taking anything sweet this semester Mantis?

3rd February 2012, 03:57 AM

Last semester I rented one of the school's fancy HD cameras.
It came with only one of the two SD cards that were supposed to be there.
They didn't care if I lost it or not,
they only cared that I replace it.
I was not pleased.
So $140 later:

I had to borrow another camera the other day.
This one had three sd cards...funny that.
Turns out they found it after I already went and replaced it.
Justice was done,
they handed over the one I paid for
and now I have a kicka-- SD card of my own.

Other than that:
Did pretty well tonight.

3rd February 2012, 04:42 AM
I find that pretty ridiculous on your college's end. You'd think they would do an inventory upon checking the cameras in or out so something like that wouldn't happen but I guess it all worked out XD Well, congrats on the new sd card man! Pretty nice size too. Hope you'll be able to put it to good use.

3rd February 2012, 05:50 AM
Yeah man.
It seems every time there's a mild crisis in my days,
I get poorer.

I will try to not use it for just low budget pornos.
Might branch out and do some high dollar ones too...

2nd March 2012, 04:21 PM

So it's been fun these last few days.
The student TV show I work on produced a parody that has had a...mixed reception.
I'm digging the publicity for the show,
but the two guys in it are less than amused.

We've even had meetings on whether or not to take it down.
A lot of drama for a little while anyway.
I'm excited to see where this goes from here.

This was done for comedy's sake.
We had some sound issues obviously.
But I quite enjoy the second half myself.

Here's some of the buzz for it.

Now, the only thing we ourselves posted was the youtube.
So this..."publicity" comes as a humorous surprise.

3rd March 2012, 07:39 AM
And now the video has been taking down...
more drama to come I suppose.

3rd March 2012, 06:07 PM
Oh dear.
I did watch it when it was online the other day.
Needless to say, I'd probably have been embarrassed to be associated with it.

3rd March 2012, 07:19 PM
It was embarrassing,
but amusing how well it was getting around. :D

17th March 2012, 05:24 AM

Twas the day of my birth today.
I be twenty now.
Had a great time.

Pal'ed around with the father.
Got some awesome breakfast and purchased some anime.

Cake for lunch.

Got a lightsaber and two movies.

Watched a movie.
It was...meh.

Then hung with the best bud.
Played ourselves a Mario baseball tourney.

Today was a good day.

17th March 2012, 01:21 PM
At first glance the lightsaber looked like a toothbrush. Also, that's a very fascinating cake. Quite colourful indeed. The green marshmallows on the top make it. :)

19th March 2012, 02:16 AM
Ever had Hostess Snowballs Mantis?
Those things will give you the diabeetus so fast...

26th March 2012, 02:47 AM

Been hard at the grindstone finishing up projects and the like.
I will have a nifty thing to show you all once my compadre writes up the score.

As for other work.
Been researching for a paper over a BA historical dude.
King Baldwin IV of Jerusalem
Gonna be sweet.

finally started watching the Hetalia I got for the b-day.
Sometimes hard to take the lovable jerk representing home.
I do say lovable, but I am biased.
I like to think my avatar uses him to promote a little unity with you my UK brethren.

26th March 2012, 03:05 AM
Nice purchases and I hope you enjoy gunxsword. Its a pretty good watch. And that cake is epic! I've actually never owned a light-saber. Not even in my childhood. I've been deprived :( I must fix this haha. And those look like some pretty good movies. The will ferrel one, not so much... I kind of stopped watching the films he's in lately :\ And I remember that commercial haha. Sounds like an interesting project. Regarding the BA guy, is that picture a snapshot from kingdom of heaven?

26th March 2012, 11:55 AM
I can't see the picture unfortunately. The second one, I mean.

Good eye Kokiri!
Love that movie.
Now I'm studying Ed Norton's character. :D
Go get your saber young jedi!

Let me see if I can find it from another location...
This one work? =]

Haha this one works XD A very amusing picture ^^ Definitely gonna look this show up.

28th March 2012, 03:23 PM
You can't go wrong with that one.
Love me some international relations. :D

I've always wondered why cartoon artists (particularly in the case of anime and manga) often draw one or both of the eyebrows as overlapping the hair. Not that there's anything wrong with it. It just piqued my curiosity. Anyway, the anime looks interesting. I'd add it to my "to watch" list, but if I keep that habit up I'll be in my 30s by the time I've emptied the list...

Hey, at least you'll always have something to look forward to.

I suspect it may be that way if they animate the eyes separately...
Though I don't know. o_O

Kind of a sad day today.
Twas the last day of the annual anime con I attend.

It's always kind of a downer on Sunday when most people have left and the convention halls are bare.
Kinda like Christmas.
So much build up and excitement, then it kinda goes out with a whimper.

Regardless! :)
Had a great time.
Bought some cool stuff.
And even won the AMV contest.
Walked away with the coveted Best-in-Show award for something you guys might remember...

Kind of a fluke really.
I only manage to make one AMV for this year's competition so when I didn't win comedy this go round I thought that would be it.
Considering I won it last year...albeit for being the only entry in the category.
So when they announced this as the overall winner I was perplexed.

There were other far more ambitious videos put on that day.
The only explanation I can think of is the nostalgia card.
Most amvs there featured newer anime and newer music...mine does not. =P

I will post more pics of my exploits and booty when I get them uploaded.
But for now some basic visual evidence that I was there.
And I'm conveniently wearing my Outlaw Star T-shirt for the win!

This blurry pic features two old favorites of mine.
Kokiri at least should recognize them.

Trowa (my personal favorite anime character for the longest time) and Quatre from Gundam Wing. :D

This is one with a group of my acquaintances.

Here I found Ryu.

And lastly me at the concert.

Wow, time really has gone by.

In honor of my fellow veterans' attempts to catch back up, here's my own quick run down.
1. Graduated College.
2. Moved from Texas to California to get a start in Hollywoodland.
3. Was unemployed for all intensive purposes for six months and change.
4. Got work doing things for TV writers that they didn't want to do themselves, along with a post-production gig involving YouTube content.
5. And still, I'm with the same lady friend I had when this site was still suffixed with .uk. Going on seven years now... lordy.

All and all, things are well in the world of Asher.
I'm happy about it.
I'm happier now that this community is back up and running.

To the veterans, especially Mantis, I've missed you all dearly.
To the newcomers, I'm eager to forge some new friendships.
To everyone, I still like posting way too many gifs.

Hello again all.

Thanks to some much needed prodding, I've realized I've neglected my favorite online community over the last few weeks.

There's no sinister reasoning for my absence, other than general laziness, and it's time to get back to it.

Been spending waaay too much time lately trying to become competent at Street Fighter these days.
As any of you who play will understand, the difficulty curve between decent and good in these fighting games is absolutely ridiculous.
Everytime I think I've made significant progress, I get my poor buttocks served up - freshly pummeled - in online play.
That'd be an accurate representation of me on bottom. [I'm a Fei Long player after all.]

Other than that, I've got a meeting with a big player over at Dreamworks coming up.
Which should prove nifty at the very least.

Recently rewatched Angel Beats! this past week, and cried manly tears of manliness.

Great show, great characters, great concept.
Worth a watch for those of you who haven't seen it.

And for those of you who have, join me in the following link for some dat feels ->

Aaaaaaand rewatched an under-appreciated film.
Amazing. An oft overlooked modern cinematic gem.

What under-appreciated media have y'all recently revisted?
I be curious, as the kids say.

8th July 2015, 11:51 AM
No worries! It's good that you're back here anyway. I've been meaning to watch Angel Beats. :) I recently revisited Death Note. I still think that the first 2/3 is a masterpiece. What brings the score down is the last third, which is just okay. By the way, if you're unaware (http://www.outlawstarnex.us/showthread.php?1671-Newsletter-July-2015&p=33486).

Heya Asher :D I already bugged you in PMs [because I'm a derp and worry too much when someone points out "hey that person hasn't been around for a while" xD]. Buuut neat to see what you've been up to! Can't help but be curious what's up with talking to someone from Dreamworks. Is it work related or just a new friend? And and and....You're probably 10x better than me at streetfighter since I don't play? :D But yep. Good to see you back to life <3 That reminds me, I should make another 'journal entry' soon...Meh. *goes back to being derpy and hugging onto you for no reason*

Ah Death Note is a great one indeed.
Yeah, it sucks when you get a lack-luster finish, especially after such an impressive start.

By the way, if you're unaware (http://www.outlawstarnex.us/showthread.php?1671-Newsletter-July-2015&p=33486).

Holy snap nuggets! I was indeed unaware.
Best surprise I've had in quite a while. I suppose I should PM you my address then.

Whelp, he's actually an alum from my university, as well as a head of post-production at Dreamworks.
I'm just trying to cultivate a friendship with the dude. We've already met up once and had a good little time.
Who know though. It may lead to a job opportunity if he has need of an extra pair of hands.

Never too late to learn ye ol' Street Fighter.
Maybe we should look into setting up a OS Nexus Street Fighter group over Steam...

29th March 2017, 06:58 PM

I just wanna thank the academy...

But yeah, wow, 1500 posts... that's the most I've ever done on a online community.
[Except for perhaps Gaia Online, but who remembers those years?
...I 'member...]
Yep, glad I've been able to bother you all for so long and with so many unnecessary gif posts.

So many years...
So many discussions...
GEEZE, it's almost like you run the place or sumthin'!

So I should make this post count with some meaningful thought or observation...
Perhaps some grandiose realization about the nature of life or the magnitude of Outlaw Star...
Oooooor I could just post more gifs of my new anime bae... I think I'll do that instead.

Oh Kokkuri-san... why can't you come posess me?
And do all my household chores. That'd be neat.

Man crushes aside-

Gotta start making more progress for those sweet, sweeeeeet achievements.
One day my darling... one day...

29th March 2017, 08:29 PM
That's a great milestone! Congratulations, Asher. A cool little fact: once you reach 2000 posts you can either be a Legendary Outlaw, or (more fun) change your user title to whatever you want. Well... within reason. ;) Outlaw Star Nexus would not be the same without your contributions, and overall being a bloody fun guy to talk to. Thanks! Your GIF spam is welcome! Here's a comparison:

Myawww, YOU! Ya making me blush.
You're too kind my man, too kind.

You know what would be really cool?
How about - once we hit 2000 - you, Mantis, bestow upon us our outlaw nickname along with the title?

Something like:
Legendary Outlaw - Big Boss Mantis

It would be a really earned award, considering that - by 2000 posts - you should have a good idea of what to call us.
And it would let us live the mythos of Outlaw Star a little bit.

Whaddya think?

That's a cool idea. :D I'd just hope I picked a decent nickname and not something stupid. Isn't the next top active poster Hari? He has a long way to go. Maybe I set the target a bit too high.

30th March 2017, 04:55 PM
Hey you're ambitious, it happens.
But we'll see how long it takes us, HARI GET ON IT!

31st March 2017, 01:52 AM
I've also decided to make you a Nexus Crusader. Welcome to the elite... though it's more of a badge than anything with access to an extra not-so-interesting board. (I should make a thread with some proper rules, but I usually just hand it out to people who have been consistently active for a while.)

Ha HA! Honorary victory, I'll take it.

Thank ya cap'n!
