Thread: How important do you believe it is to keep your finances in order?

After a year that no one seen coming and seeing how millions struggled to make ends meet, it really made me think about all this. Like the average person not only has debt but struggles to get by on a week to week basis. They are not financially stable in any aspect and I feel like this is just setting up for a disaster, virus or no virus.

How important do you believe is to keep on top of your finances, never overspend and never have lingering debts?

I'm not so good at watching my spending. I usually manage to keep it hovering around a small amount of overdraft at worst though which only gets me charged very small amounts. I've recently been using a credit card to help clear some debts. I make sure to only go with offers that offer a zero-interest time period. I just make proper use of the card within that period and stop using it immediately afterwards. The amount of interest can be crazy if you're not careful.

It's the most important. "Debt is slavery" was my Dad's quote. Those of you who have been around for a while will remember my posts offering to assist people here on the forums understand/manage their finances. It's something that I'm passionate about and I can't stand hearing about or seeing people I come into contact with crash and burn in debt.

That is a good quote. I mean it really is slavery. You end up tied down in so many ways in your life because of it. If you have enough debt you may not be able to move, might not be able to find a better job (risk of going unpaid while looking can backfire), you won't be able to buy a house or lease/buy a new car.. It just all piles on. Most people I have known to have significant debt have either lost their first home or never left "home" and still live with their parents because of college debts.

Extremely important.

I work hard for my income and I expect to know where my money is going.

My wife thinks i do too much, but when I'm are working, I want to know where it goes.
