    Happiness

A happier debate for our serious niche.

What constitutes true happiness to you?

For me, it would be a loving spouse and spiritual contentment.
    I'm easy.

    RE: Happiness

    ...it's complicated.
"It turned out that the ghost was just Mr. Finley, who ran the amusement park. The spooky part is that, as soon as the ghost appeared, the teenagers' dog began to speak! And it spoke in a tortured parody of human speech: 'relp me, Raggy,' it would say. 'I am an abomination and rould re rilled. Rill re, Raggy.'"

    RE: Happiness

I hate to sound like a negative son of a bitch, but I find it hard to define what happiness is. Could one truly define instant gratification, such as simple pleasures (a night out, a holiday, inebriation, sex) as happiness? It makes me think of a book I own, called "The Happiness Trap". To quote the back cover...

"Do you ever feel worried, miserable or unfulfilled—yet put on a happy face and pretend everything's fine? You are not alone. Stress, anxiety, depression and low self-esteem are all around. New research suggests that many of us get caught in a psychological trap, a vicious circle in which the more we strive for happiness, the more it eludes us."

Surprisingly, it's not a very negative book. Rather, it teaches you to change your philosophy and lifestyle instead of modelling your life around what a typical citizen should see as "happiness". Back to positivity though. What makes me happy, or provides instant gratification, is usually reading or working on a project. Or being in the right company of friends. I only like to be in small groups, but I enjoy spending time out. It's not happening a lot lately at this university. I also enjoy going on trips, like how I stayed in Paris for a month, though circumstances weren't entirely normal. Then—of course—there is gaming. Something which I haven't done for quite a while actually, minus playing my Pandora a few times. Some game design student I am.

    RE: Happiness

I think I'm most happy when I've completed personal challenges or have things to look forward to and having a really wacky spontaneous day where I just do random things.

I remember when I just turned 16 I decided randomly on the day I was going to get my tongue pierced, so I did. MAD adrenaline rush, loved it.

Or when I get good results at school/university, I always feel super chuffed and just excited all day! I love being excited and experiencing adrenaline rushes.

    RE: Happiness

I would definitely say hanging out with friends. I can just have a laugh with them for hours on end and sometimes all we have to do is be together and we're always having smiles on. Also, when I think about it, whenever you think about sad people don't you always hear someone go "That dude needs some friends" or etc.? IDK, that's just my thoughts.
This is my signature, isn't it great?

    Very good point.
It's hard to be sad when you've got your buddies by your side.
