How long will this lockdown last?

I know no one knows at this point but based on what is happening in your local area, do you have any predictions?

Some people are saying it will be over in May, others are saying in June.

That is a lot of time for people to be out of work. I work from home and my income has dropped by over 50% because of this virus. People just don't have money to spend. I don't make all that much as it is month to month. My husband's interview has been put on hold (he was meant to start working this month) as well so he won't be working anytime soon. Our savings is nearly out so I am getting more and more worried here.

In the US, Trump tried passing a thing to help people and small businesses who can't be open right now with money for food and such but some of the jerks in power keep declining it. I am so sick of this anti-Trump crap I want to scream. Just let him help the American people. This is not the time to to be d**king around with stupid political non-sense! All these people have money they can sit on and don't even need to be working. Bunch of a**holes!

When do you think things will start to go back to normal?

It's rather ironic that the party who is always pushing for handouts is blocking Trump's stimulus bill. It's fine when they do it, but if Trump does it, it's suddenly bad. Hopefully this will reflect poorly on those responsible come voting season.

While the lockdown probably should continue into May, I doubt that it'll actually happen. The powers who decide these types of things tend to be rich business owners and/or politicians. With the stock market tanking, I don't think they will keep things under lockdown for as long as they should. I just don't foresee the government keeping businesses closed for another month or more when they rely on business to generate taxes.

Double-post but this is a unique bit of information as a follow-up to my last post.

I just went to the dog park over lunch break, one of the guys there who claims to have some inside knowledge (I'm not sure who he works for but he was super SUPER into this topic. My wife who was there before me says he was spouting on and on about it for an hour before I arrived) claims that it'll be extended to mid-May very soon. I'm not sure if he was talking about just our state or at the Federal level. If you compare where the East Coast USA is at to the spread of the virus in China and Europe, we are about halfway to 2/3 to the peak. The peak is plotting for mid-April, which puts us at about mid-May for the peak cases to recover (or die off). The comparisons and information sound reasonable, but this guy may just be having the time of his life with this and speculating like a conspiracy theorist.

Anyway, just a little anecdote from the outside world since it sounds like Nagato and I are some of the few who still go out. I work for a University and by extension I work for the state. I haven't received any official email about a quarantine extension. As of this moment, I'm expected back at work on April 1st. That's next Wednesday, which doesn't sound likely at all right now.

Fun fact: I've been in 4 hours of meetings (video conferencing) today. We're scrambling to handle the influx of new clients (I'm a business consultant) looking for Disaster Loans. We aren't really getting any work done though because we're constantly meeting about HOW to get this much work done.

Some guy at a park sounds less trustworthy than the internet.

We should be in lockdown for as long as it takes. Trump has really been downplaying the virus and intends to bring the US out of lockdown very soon. Remember when he called the coronavirus a hoax or when he up until recently wrote it off as nothing to worry about... until he didn't and indeed started taking it seriously. It sounds to me like he wants to undo that forward thinking. When that's all said and done and the death toll rises more and more he'll change his tune, mark my words. He's done it several times already. I've been quite vocal about my criticism of the UK's pussyfooting and now Boris is taking decisive action.

The United States has been taking too long as well. Trump speaks as if the United States is invincible. The numbers are saying otherwise and honestly, I don't want him to batter his reputation even more. I often agree with his actions but this time there's too much at stake.

I think the British are beginning to comply with self-isolation but I wouldn't say this has fully sunk in yet. The government has paved the way for containment. Now it's down to the public. I won't hold my breath, but I would say that this is a damn lot better than doing nothing. The tolls won't steady or fall overnight, but our NHS doesn't have the resources for things to keep going like they were.

Countries that haven't done this or intend to relax their more lenient lockdown will probably realise this. I wrote about China before and their methods were harsh, but despite their mistake of keeping the information to themselves for too long, they've come out of this because they acted fast.

Gene: "Have faith in me guys, enjoy the ride—you're in good hands. I can handle this. I can do it!"
    Jim: "How do you know?"
    Gene: "I don't!"
    Jim: "I knew it."
Gene: "That's okay. There's a first time for everything!"
