Do you love your country?
Personally, despite my love and appreciation for Classical European and Eastern cultures, I am proud to call myself an American. I don't consider it so much a love of my country as I do a love of my country's values: that is to say, the ideals of freedom of speech, personal liberty, and republicanism upon which the United States were founded. I call myself a liberal and a patriot because I believe in these things, and value them almost more than life itself. The ideas that I may live my life how I desire, and not be bound to one path or another by some omniscient Fate, and speak how I desire without fear of censure or persecution are beautiful ones, and I am eternally happy to live in a country that was built upon this idea.
What are your thoughts? Are you proud to be a citizen of your own country, or do you prefer to believe in ideals over nations? As always, please be civil when stating your opinion.
