What will be the new "normal" going forward?

While this virus is certainly not the worst we have had in recent years, it was one of the most easily spread and it seems like new measures and laws are going to continue to be put in place that will not be changed even after the virus is a rare case. Vaccinations are a good 2 years off still and by that time, plenty of people will already have immunity from the virus.

What do you think is going to stay for good? Will workers continue to need to wear masks daily? Are people going to keep social distancing? Will more jobs be available from home?

It's too early for me to say, personally. I think my country loosened lockdown way too early and never properly told people how to act for containment. And with all these BLM protests and rioting, all of this is going to do a full circle and bite itself in the ass. Same goes for USA. So yeah, I think I'll be able to give a proper answer in a few months but it's hard to say for sure right now because I don't think we're nearly ready for a new normal.

I think Americans will at the very least be more open to wearing face-masks in the future. We haven't really done it before in public in living memory, and that was a really weird transition for a lot of people who felt awkward about doing it. I think a few germophobes will continue to wear them but most people won't. In my area I don't see anyone wearing them anymore aside from inside businesses that still require it. Social distancing went out the window as soon as the BLM protests & riots began. Even if you and I practice it, it'll be mostly ineffective now that thousands and thousands of people congregated into shoulder-to-shoulder crowds.

I get the protests and people being angry but they really screwed a lot of people over. Who knows how many will die as a result of this all happening and they don't seem to care. I think most businesses around here require workers to wear masks and some require gloves. While I do see people out and about wearing masks, it is only maybe 1 in every 20 people at this point.

These are the same people who call you crazy if you question a vaccine, btw. "hErD iMmUnItY!" then runs out to join a crowd during a pandemic for free Nike shoes. All that resolve goes out the window when they feel affected by something but God forbid you want to ask questions about a vaccine before giving your baby 35 of them. I'm not saying vaccines are bad, i'm only saying that we need to be exactly as wary of them as anything else we eat or inject. I'm nervous about the Corona vaccine because it'll likely be thee fastest vaccine ever developed and they are going to skip over a lot of safety checks to get it out the door ASAP for $$$BIG BUCKS$$$.

The thing about a virus vaccine is that they are not very effective. I actually spoke with a doctor about this when I had the swine flu. He said that they only work for children, teens, and young adults, and even when they do "work" they are only about 15% effective. A virus only lives and functions on dead or dying tissue so the more unhealthy a host is, the more they have working in their favor. The fact that this virus spread as quickly as it did (considering how weak it is) should be an eye-opener to the general public that people in the US are unhealthy as hell. And I hate to say it but the pharmaceutical industry doesn't make its trillions off of healthy people either. I want transparency and legal obligations that these companies are held to a standard. Even if you can prove a vaccine made you sick or killed your child, you can't sue them or do anything about it.

This is a whole other topic but I agree with you, it is a scary thought and the way the hivemind is working right now, people are likely going to be willing to sign over their rights to force vaccinate people. My mom never believed in flu vaccination as a result, I never had one and neither did she but now she is so filled with fear, she is considering getting one for this virus.

Unless a baby needs to be vaccinated, they shouldn't be vaccinated with anything until the immune system is fully developed which is between 18 and 24 months for most toddlers.

I agree with everything here. You actually caught the swine flu? How was that experience?

I got the regular flu shot once when i was 14 or 15, my whole family went and got them so I just kind of rode along not feeling any particular way about it. Afterwards my arm was sore and I felt kinda run down, but my dad had full-blown flu symptoms for 2-3 days. Since then he has continued to receive the flu shot and it messes him up for several days each time. I don't know how that can possibly be any better for him than risking the actual flu since he's in great shape and only 52 years old. He's giving himself a guaranteed illness every year in exchange for the chance to contract an equally bad illness once in a great while.

Are vaccines similar to antibiotics in the sense that the virus adapts to overcome it? As i understand, virus vaccines (an ineffective as they already are) don't work year after year. New ones must be developed each season. We already know that antibiotics are breeding super-bacteria, and I fear the same about viruses but I'm completely ignorant as to whether they adapt or not.

I've never contracted a flu and as I've read a few percent of the population are immune to it which I assume I must be since I never caught it in all my years at public school & 6 years at college. Again, I'm not an anti-vax soccer Mom going on a Facebook rant here. I just have questions. I'm likewise concerned that vaccine developers and those who administer them cannot be held legally accountable for their effects. I don't know if you've ever seen the boxes or bags that vaccines come in, but they are coated in warnings and disclaimers. Since I'm not at-risk of dying or taking serious damage from COVID, I won't be getting a vaccine once they develop one unless I'm forced to. I'd much prefer to stay home an extra few weeks while at-risk people get vaccinated if they choose to.
