    How will you be remembered?

Okay, time for a bit more serious question; How will you be remembered once you're gone?

I think I read that the memory of us existing will fade in about 75 years after our deaths (wonder if that changes with Internet being hip and all?) unless we do something special so that more than our inner circle knows about us. So this got me really thinking, how would people remember me after I'll be gone.

And I honestly can't think of a single reason for anyone to remember me! Not that I really mind, but considering how many communities I've been part of, what I've accomplished and done, that will all fade away in few years after I cease to exist.

Hey Agamemnon this is a truly great thread you've started. I hope more people will respond soon as it's very interesting. I agree with much of what you say and can give you my answer.

About 10 years ago, I cared deeply about what I was going to accomplish and how people will think of me once I'm gone. I achieved certain goals that made me very happy and my loved ones proud about my achievements. At the end of the day, it's not such a big deal. A nice feeling for a short while but time has a tendency of eradicating this. The best one can do is make the most of each day they are alive.

I think that you will never really cease to exist. I simply cannot believe that this existence is all there is, and then one day we die and it was all for nothing. My opinion is that life is journey, death is a continuation of that journey, and that it does not really matter if someone remembers you or not. All that matters is what you have learned in your life, and that is precisely what you are taking along with you.

For the most part, I couldn't care less how I would be remembered. Maybe I'm too materialistic but it really doesn't matter to me what happens after I'm gone because I'd be gone anyway, and the only thing that would make me feel better is if I'm told while alive that I will be remembered by this and that, other than that how would I feel anything towards 'being remembered' if I'm dead anyway?

Not to say I don't hope to do good for humanity overall, but I just think it doesn't matter one bit how other people view what I... accomplished, if anything.

I would like to be remembered for doing something good for people, the world.
I wouldn't want to be forgotten after 75 years, I think that, that goes with nearly everybody. We don't want to be forgotten.

If people forget about me years after my death, I will be okay with that. What is important to me is that I have spent time with people I love and gave them all my heart until the time comes that I must depart them. If they forget about this, it is their choice and I will not condemn them. What matters is that I never took them for granted.

I would be remembered as a person who made good choices and someone who you can trust as a friend which can be hard in this world as many have friends, based on need or circumstances which is only for a short time and not permanent. It will be good to be remembered as a person who did good things and also made choices which had goojd consequences for me and others and peace remained as well. It is important to do good deeds in life or you will not be remembered very well and people won't respect you that much which will not be good for you and others.

We would all like to be fondly remembered after we die. It's just the nature of the human ego. But does it really matter if we aren't remembered as great, accomplished people? Or even if we aren't remembered at all? I just want to live out my time on earth as best as I can, to be as happy as I can. Of course my family and friends will miss me when I'm gone but eventually they will die too and my memory will fade. That's just the way life goes, and I'm okay with it.

It's a good question, but I don't have an answer. Hopefully, in a few decades if I've completed what I intend to do I can provide one. I'm new in the business, but as a game designer I want to create games that people will remember. Even if I myself am not remembered, a record of what I've created is good enough for me. Eventually I'll be forgotten though. I have no doubts about that. People will talk about me in the past tense for a while, and then that's it. Gone. It might be pessimistic, but by keeping this reality in my mind I'm less scared of dying, because it seems being forgotten is one of the biggest fears people have.
