    Sexuality in Music Videos

I noticed a lot of music videos these days have A TON of sexuality in them, mostly by way of the female body. Wearing next to nothing, showing fast close shots of body parts, and sexual dancing. While I am in favor of freedom through creative art, do you think this is a bit much for the youth? I think that music videos should have ratings on them and most kids 14 or under shouldn't be watching a good portion of them.

I know a few clips which had ratings but it's for violence, not sex.
Becuse depending on what you show, you can either get morality's crusaders on your back or total impunity.
Heterosexual sexuality on TV fits the second category.
The worst is when it's disguised as a progressive message or an "artistic freedom".
Well i'm not going to write a novel on it so let's just say i hate humanity and especially when talking about arts, media, morality etc...

    Who cares?

The music video is just capitalizing on the fact that teenagers tend to be horny motherfuckers and is offering something that is pleasing to the eye. Not to mention, what good is giving a rating on a music video gonna do? In the age of the internet, younger folk has probably seen more extreme stuff on the internet anyway. If anything, the crap in the music videos are pretty damn tame.

I get what you mean and i have to agree up to a certain point.
Seeing sex, people's (men or women) degradation, violence or other on dedicated places is not the same as those being promoted by
influencial people 24/7 on media that claim to be a safe place where you can find "culture".
Watching sex on a porn site and seeing people reduced to sexual objects on TV to glorify a singer/actor is not the same.
And this is exactly what i hate. Sexual and symbolic oppression is okay when you specifically look for it on the internet but not when it's an
unavoidable speech through medias that claim to educate/entertain safely.
That's why before making scenes about crimes/social injustice we should purge the media glorifying, or at least making those common.

Also just look at the Beyonce case ("singles ladies" for example) and tell me this isn't social sabotage.
    Never overestimate mankind.

My general worry is that it is influencing a problem. Teens and kids are impressionable. Seeing this amount of sex or sexuality can't be good. Things like rape come to mind for me. It seems to be a bigger issue with boys than girls because boys tend to lose control of their hormones and their sexual desires. For girls, I think it is more or less a mental thing.. they believe they have to be like these women to be desirable which isn't good either. Seeing 13 to 17 year olds dressing like Las Vegas dancers... it is not a good thing. Morals, religion, politics aside... Kids should be important here because they can grow up to do wonderful or horrific things.

This and I couldn't agree more. The portrayal of sexuality in music videos is nothing compared to what teens and young adults have access to these days. Like for instance in a porn site, all you need to do is to click the "I am over 18" consent, and it's all done.

Any responsible parent is restricting his child's access to the internet and watches the people they talk to.
Also porn still has social stigmas to shame it (for better or worse) but the constant depiction of those theme in "legitimate",
massive and unregulated entertainment industries such as music, tv, or others like this is way more Dangerous.
Also please stop with the "they have access to" because as i said if their parents do their f*****g job, they don't have this access,
and porn is perfectly okay to be watched by Young ADULTS.
Finally saying "they could Watch porn, so sexual/sexist overflowing iconography is not a problem" is like saying :
"they could get a gun, so street-fighting is okay". It does not work that way !
    Never overestimate mankind.

I do think that there should be a rating and classification board for music videos so that videos which contain sexually explicit content can be easily monitored by parents. Like you I also think that there's too much sex in music videos.

I think I'm with Starwind here. The "kids are impressionable" attitude got us where we are in the political correctness we see every day.

The problem is just how teenagers behave. The more limits you place on something, the more teens will try to circumvent them. That's what they do. Screw the rules, right? Just let the music videos be with their rather tame sexual themes, because I bet you any money most teens are watching far worse on a regular basis.
Gene: "Have faith in me guys, enjoy the ride—you're in good hands. I can handle this. I can do it!"
    Jim: "How do you know?"
    Gene: "I don't!"
    Jim: "I knew it."
Gene: "That's okay. There's a first time for everything!"

Pretty much this. Just keep taking things away and taking things away until there are no problems....oh wait...that doesn't work. It's alright for there to be a few examples of that (guns, drugs, things that are physically harmful) but not letting them even LOOK at something just because it's suggestive is getting too granular.
