Thread: Will social media censorship be their own end?

Twitter is pushing for more censorship and now looks to protect religious groups. I would like to assume that this does not include Christianity or Catholic-based groups because they are among a "primarily white privileged group" as I have heard by these far left activists.

They have opted to lock Louis Farrakhan first over his comparison of Jewish people to cockroaches. This approach is a bad idea. I think everyone should be able to say what they want so long as it is not calling for violence. Why? Because it allows the public to make their own judgment of a person's character. Now we will have truly horrible people on these platforms and won't be able to know it.

I have a feeling after the 2020 election, Facebook and Twitter will be done for. I am almost 100% certain Trump will win again and within the first 2 years of his second term, people will realize it is almost over and go back to whatever hole they crawled out from, ignoring real issues and just caring about their neighbor's horrible taste in music.

While that is probably wishful thinking, I really really really hope you're right on that point.

The current industry-leaders in social media will only collapse when the pendulum moves so far that the majority of people are ostracized or censored. Sure, maybe 10-15% are affected right now but we need this to pass the 50% mark where lifelong lefties are affected. The hole in Facebook/Twitter/etc's armor isn't wide enough yet for a competitor to gobble up a sizable portion of the user base that has been disenfranchised or banned/blocked/censored. Hopefully once both sides are getting cracked down upon by a system that is SO FAR to the left that it is comical even to some staunch Democrats then we can all agree that a platform on which both sides get an equal voice is the only way to ensure that everyone can have a voice going forward.

Another obstacle to the growth of competitors is that many people who feel left out on social media have outright quit it. I don't remember my last visit to Facebook/Twitter/Instagram/etc. and even if a really good competitor to Facebook gained traction I doubt I would bother to make an account and I can't be the only one. I don't really want to participate in social media at all and I only do to the extent that my job requires me to. I've tried Minds and I really like that interface, and I love the idea of Bitchute but BOY is that UI janky to use!

Social media is a load of wank, really. Glorified popularity contests.

I compared Facebook to high school for adults back in 2009. I am sure it is way worse now. Everyone pretending to be friends with as many people as possible to give each other a reach around of self-confidence to justify any horrible life choices they have made.

The thing is though, social media is beyond this when you think in terms of owning a business. I own a few websites and make a living off of them. If I were suddenly punished by Google or social media giants, it would really ruin a lot for me. This is the aspect I am most concerned with. I have seen people lose their jobs over social media biased crap but losing business? I can't imagine how horrible that must be to go through.
