    Tiktok is... Just the worst

I don't use the app, never once downloaded it so I am basing my opinion on what I know of other people's experiences using the app and pointing things out about it. I am sure there are talented, funny creators on there but they are drowning in the endless sea of " I look good, pay attention to me" teens. Yes, teens. The number of 13 to 17 year olds on there doing next to nothing to get attention is scary. The girls talk about being 14/15 with big boobs, the guys talk about their perfect hair or jawlines... It is just so cringy. It baffles me that people can get away with stuff like this and not be mocked in middle school or high school and yet I was picked on for enjoying anime and liking video games.

I know there were talks about the US banning it but Microsoft is looking to buy stock in it to keep it alive. Why? This is just enabling narcissism with the youth and encouraging bad behavior. Can you imagine these kinds of people as adults in the real world? They won't know how to hold a job to save their life.

Maybe I am just turning into a boomer or something but Jesus, this stuff is sad.

I'm just tired of the countless TikTok ads I'm shown on YouTube. They expertly illustrate that their network is for energetic teenyboppers and cool guys. I'm not in the age group, so I wonder why I'm constantly targeted by the algorithm. Yeah, it's kind of typical of Microsoft to gobble up yet another business. (Or at the very least they'll keep TikTok afloat somehow.)

If only that was the actual outcome. Microsoft is clearly doing this because they only own adult social networks like LinkedIn. Acquiring TikTok would be filling a gap.

I'm glad I never got into Tik Tok.

    My reasons are:

    1. Chinese Communist based app... i can't trust commies
    2. Do I need another social media app?
Youtube, bitchute, FB, MeWe, Line, Gab, Parlor, and the like... does another one really need to be had?
    3. Whatever happened to Vine?

    Thats about it.

I wanted to add something to this. Apprently if the US does buy it, it will likely be shut down anyways because Instagram introduced basically a clone of Tiktok. They don't care about how the app functions or who enjoys it, they just want the data farming to be within the US and by a company they run.

Does Pokemon Go do this? I never played it. Never had any interest in playing it either. Just felt like a giant tracking device disguised as a game lol

    Pokemon Go had game farming.

Like an old guy in Taiwan had like 100 phones looking for pokemon.

This guy was all over the place.

But i imagine in order for this to work, it had to have a GPS tracking.

Plus, this was in 2016, and folks were running around like a flock of birds

Tiktok is giga-cringe but I don't see it as any worse than early YouTube or most other platforms. The stuff about the users being rather young isn't Tiktok's fault, parents should be watching what their kids are doing/posting/wearing. Creepers should be held accountable as well of course, but it isn't the platform's fault. I don't use it and I never will but I don't really care if it exists or not. I'd prefer if all social media went away.

The only kind of social media (though I call it social networking) that seemed to be safe from harm on a larger scale has been forums and that is because there are so many of them and you can join whatever interests you the most. You aren't stuck on one giant forum with a bunch of people you have nothing in common with. Grouping a lot of people together who have different interests, backgrounds, morals, religions, political views, and just general world outlooks is going to have problems. You can see that in the real world.
