    Twitter & Facebook Purging

So both platforms are getting rid of thousands, possibly hundreds of thousands of accounts. They are using what happened at the capitol as an excuse to silence people. This is pretty nuts. While I don't agree with everyone's thoughts or opinions, I believe they have the right to them. The line is only crossed when they call for acts of violence which many of these people haven't done yet plenty who are on the "left" side of politics have and they are perfectly safe on these platforms.

I think it comes down to controlling what people know and believe. They want their truths out there and nothing else. Scary times. This might actually spark a civil war down the road. There are talks of banning people from banking, flights, and rights to earn a living simply for their political beliefs.

I don't know how far they will get before people snap. Scary times!

The problem is the monopoly Facebook and twitter have over social media. The funny thing is, I've been suspended on twitter for using certain words like "sweet cheeks", but people can literally threatening to kill Trump and their account are still there

Literal pedophiles have stayed in twitter for weeks if not months, but people get suspended for "sexist" words. Twitter is absolute trash, but it's the most popular social media site out there.
Hell, when the ACLU is against Trump being banned, you know it's bad. They're worried about the precedent that sets.

Their censorship of Parler is also ridiculous. I created a thread to offer Parler through OSN, but due to technical problems (internal links in the OSN app not working properly as well as Google blocking the Parler installer file) I have deleted that thread. It kind of feels like these companies are trying to silence a formidable competitor under the guise of political reasons. Of course, the anti-free speech groups are celebrating this whole fiasco.

A decade ago you'd have never seen this. Even the liberals were against this kind of behaviour. Remember how much Mozilla was rooting for net neutrality? Now even they have released a statement advocating censorship. Most of these companies say this is mostly to do with the Capitol incident but I think they've been waiting for an opportunity like this.

I think what happened a few days ago was wrong. I also think inciting violence is wrong. We all know two types in particular that incite violence all the time on social media: members of Antifa and BLM. They're responsible for an immeasurable amount of damage to cities, people's livelihoods and even murder. But that's always okay. They're seldom punished on social media for such actions.

What happened to people? One day many of them will be our leaders.

It is a mess. I mean I said earlier today, people calling out for the death of Pence on Twitter or Facebook should be removed but I forgot how many thousands of people, if not hundreds of thousands of people did that to Trump for 4 years. They are all mentally unhinged or something. If this is mind-control, I would believe it. I just can't consider this amount of people to be this clueless, hateful, and ignorant without there being a root cause of the problem.

I ended up joining Parler. Amazon is looking to shut them down now. I see trolls who are clearly trolls ( pretending to be Trump supporters just to say the n word freely, things like that) but most people just want to have a platform where they can talk and share ideas freely without worrying they will lose their voice, their job, or their friends. What is wrong with that?

Now Liberals in Congrss are demanding Ted Xruz and Josh Hawlee resign because the objected during the Electoral college hearing. They had nothing to do with the riot at the Capitol, but the left sees this as an opportunity to get rid of anyone they disagree with.
It's vile to see how low these snakes will stop to get full control of Washington. And to use the attack on the Capitol as a political tool is fucking disgusting. I didnt think I could rsspect Pelosi less, but she finds ways to stop lower every time she opens her mouth.
I know Ted Xruz won't resign. He won't lit rabid dogs like Pelosi bully him around. Idk and Hawlee, but I gained a ton of respect for him.

Parler is RIP. I guess their support and lawyers backed out late last night on them as well. There is a good chance they might not recover from this. The big tech nutjobs got what they wanted. I guess it was a smart move for Trump to join Gab and not Parler.

In regards to the internet silencing going on, I agree with it to some degree to stop some nutjobs destroying democracy. I can certainly understand to prevent another Capitol incident or something even worse occurring.

However, people should be able to say what they want and be free to do so. But there are boundaries to this already, like threatening violence on others or paedophilia for example.

The blanket ban on Parler for sure seems like the big tech companies bullying it out of existence. It's a competitor sure, but the big companies' actions are pathetic really as Twitter and others utterly dwarf Parler.

At the end of the day, the tech companies make their own rules on banning dangerous rhetoric and suchlike. As others have already suggested with their posts, sites like Twitter should be taking a good look at themselves before pointing fingers at another platform.

I left Twitter and Facebook behind months ago, and now I'm using Minds. A lot of old Twitter shitposters are showing up there. If you don't mind, I'll share my Minds.com profile here: Lord_Tennyson's_Pipe (@PearlQuartz17) | Minds In case anyone is interested. :-)

I'm holding off on joining new platforms at the moment as many don't seem to last long or lack the user numbers and interaction compared to the giants.

What I'm desperate to see though is a platform actually challenge YouTube. The P2P alternatives do seem to be slowly growing, so it will still probably be a while before that happens.

I have a few accounts on Minds and Gab but Gab isn't functioning right and I never used Minds. I signed up and just kind of forgot about it lol

Might have to just sit on the sidelines for awhile and wait for this mess to sort itself out.
