    Video Game Scalpers

What are your thoughts on scalpers and how they impact the gaming community?

I feel like most people don't like them doing this but some think it is fair play and part of capitalism.

I feel that it is under the company's control over how much or how little they regulate this kind of thing. They could easily put human verification on these sites to ensure customers are buying their products and not bots but most sites don't do this. Some put limits on products and even this do little to stop these kinds of people because they use bots to shop for them.

Muta did a few videos on the topic recently:

Where do you stand on this topic?

I've sold things for marked up prices in the past, but none of them were sold out they just required extra legwork. For example, you could pre-order as many Majora's Mask 3DS handhelds as you wanted but you had to do it in person so I was waiting at the door to GameStop at like 6AM and after placing that order I drove around to other shops for a few hours and secured 6 of them. I disagree with screwing others out of something to the point where it becomes unavailable but I sold those to lazy folks for 2x price.

I don't buy consoles at launch because it's always a fiasco. I also buy nearly all of my games used a few months after release on eBay so I don't really feel bad for the babies who need their shiny new toy Day 1 because I learned to restrain myself and so can they. Scalpers are definitely rude & sneaky but I can't think of a concrete reason why it shouldn't be allowed.

I never understood buying a system in the first year of the release. They always charge less the second year and there are more games available. I mean I didn't get my Xbox 360 until 2011 and bought it used for $130. LOL

I just feel like people are too inclined to have the latest this or that to show off and this is what enables scalpers in the first place.
