    What's Your View on Life?

Do you believe in deities? Are you all about science? What is your philosophy for living? I'm an absurdist. I believe there might actually be some kind of omnipotent being out there. To me, it's possible. However, I believe any attempt to search for such a being is futile, and ultimately a waste of time. As for my general philosophy, that is something I am trying to change.

I want to avoid focusing on the past and stop taking solace in a potential future—simply, live in the present. Easier said than done though, one might say.

Since this discussion will involve religion, let's try to keep it civil, aight?

Mine's less... well, 'wordy'. You're born, and eventually you'll die; it's enjoying the middle that's important.
"It turned out that the ghost was just Mr. Finley, who ran the amusement park. The spooky part is that, as soon as the ghost appeared, the teenagers' dog began to speak! And it spoke in a tortured parody of human speech: 'relp me, Raggy,' it would say. 'I am an abomination and rould re rilled. Rill re, Raggy.'"

I am a Deist, and to an extent, a revolutionary. I believe that there is a God, that created the heavens and Earth. I also don't think he cares for us, one way or the other. Earth is not but a mote in God's eye. However, I also believe it is the moral duty of humanity as a whole to eventually surpass our creator, if only so that we might have a chance to improve upon him and his work. I doubt the existence of an afterlife; I hope there is one, but I am not holding out for it.

Try to enjoy it, try to accomplish something, and don' t be a douche.

That about sums it up for me.

I'll be your token christian of the group.
Not a fundamentalist though, I don't presume to know the answers.

My basic understanding is that I must strive to be undivided.
That love should be freely given and keep no record of wrong.
That I am to love all peoples as God loves them, and thereby become closer to the Father.
Which I am learning is exceedingly difficult.

Undivided love is a rare but beautiful thing.

RE: What's Your View on Life?

Asher's post almost brought me to tears O_O (In a good way)

My Mom was raised Catholic but she never really pushed it on me so I kinda, sorta, not really tend to be an Agnostic (School kinda brainwashed me to not believe in god for my elementary-middle school years though >_< ouch). My philosophy is optimism. I feel like life's easier if you do everything with comparing and contrasting. If I had the worst day of my life that's good news because it means that things will only get better from there ! I also really love neutrality. I try to avoid taking sides and prefer to be an observer on the outside.
This is my signature, isn't it great?

RE: What's Your View on Life?

Technically, I am Christian—I was baptised. But both myself and my sister started to hate church. I guess I never had a very optimistic outlook; my childhood wasn't exactly fantastic, though I usually try to act positive towards most people. In any case, eventually we rebelled and I believe I was eleven and my sister was thirteen when we refused to go. We always felt it was pretty much forced on us. As mentioned, I'm not an atheist. I acknowledge there might be some great being, but to be truthful I don't really care, since I think an effort to find out would be worthless.

You do get some atheists who for some reason despise all Christians or followers of other religions. Sometimes I find it odd when I see those who are deeply obsessed with religion, and I feel it's a bit wasteful. I wouldn't bother anyone about it, and those who are quite passive and casual about religion are fine by me. I only truly despise fanatics who try to impose religion on you. Fun fact: I only recall ever meeting two Americans. (My memory does suck though.) They were Mormons who tried to follow me to work and lecture me.

    You got it!

I think if we were supposed to know the meaning of life, we would know.

Yeah, the Mormons tend to be that way. They work in pairs going door to door on bicycles.
