Hm. Regardless of the rights and wrongs of a situation like this, censorship is one thing, but sending somebody to jail for sharing a link is something else entirely. Videos like Christchurch are always shared and aren't hard to find either. That goes for just about every massacre or other violence that is filmed. Like they say, what goes on the internet stays on the internet and no matter what the New Zealand government tries, that goes for Christchurch too. Probably even more so, as taking these measures will produce a Streisand effect with more people looking for the video.

Honestly, the best thing they can do is STFU about it. Drama only adds fuel to the fire and memes are a fire that can't be put out.

Wow this is a bit much. I guess they want full blown censorship online though so it really doesn't surprise me.

The media is to blame though. Teens and young adults both know memes get under people's skin so they do it to be edgy but the media gives these incidents a lot of air time. They make the killer out to be someone famous... I mean the dude legit said he did it so the media would be in a frenzy and they did what he wanted. Not only did he kill people but the stupid media gave a horrible man what he wanted. That is what is disgusting to me. Not some stupid meme.

What's really strange to me is that 9/11 footage is perfectly okay to share in New Zealand.
