Thread: Do you celebrate Valentine's Day?

Not sure if I asked this before on here or not but I am curious since most members here appear to be male.

I don't celebrate it myself and never felt pressured to outside of when I was younger and still in school, the day just make everyone who was single feel awful about themselves. Maybe that is why I am put off by it? My husband doesn't care either way so we just never celebrated the day in any way and we have been together for 7 years now.

Do you celebrate it with your partner? If you are single, have you celebrated it with past partners?

Yes, I did celebrate it with past partners. To be honest more than anything I saw it as an excuse to dine out somewhere nicer. Come to think of it, I think I chose that day for a proposal. (She said yes but we broke up around a year later.)

I never really had a problem with Valentine's Day. I can see why it might bother single people but it is what it is. If couples want to enjoy that day, let it be I guess. I wouldn't be put off from celebrating it if I was in a relationship. People don't avoid celebrating Halloween because some people are missing out on the festivities for religious or other reasons.

But then again, Valentine's Day is just a day. You could treat any other day similarly and probably save yourselves a lot of hassle.

I always thought of it as an excuse to just spend money on your partner which in and of itself isn't a bad thing but I feel like doing this throughout the year when it is not expected has more meaning behind it. Like a lot of people in marriages and relationships (especially women) expect their partner to do something for them and I often see people make comparisons with each other based on what they got. It is a bit weird to me. I don't have an issue with people celebrating the day, I do think it is weird or even a bit selfish to expect something on that day though. It isn't like an anniversary or something.

Nope.

Like others have said, my wife and I will sometimes go out for a nice meal or just have a special one at home. We also like to get each other a small gift.

I celebrate it w/ my wife & gfs in the past. It's never been a big deal though.
This year, we will get takeout from a fancy restaurant nearby.

Although, things will be different this year if I don't screw anything up in the next 2 weeks

Man, being in a burgeoning relationship around Valentines Day must really the pressure on! Hope things work out for you.

I don't generally celebrate Valentine's Day, as I have nobody with whom to celebrate, but I do always celebrate February 15th, or as I call it, "Discount Chocolate Day."

To expand on my "nope", I don't get it. You're in a relationship, why do you need this one fucking day of the year to prove anything to one another? Truth be told, I only remember this shitheap of a day because it's my mother's birthday on the 14th. If not for that I'd sit around in complete ignorance and bite the nose off anyone who tried educating me into following this horseshit.

tl;dr
Say hi on the 14th to keep mother & co. happy, drink and sleep through the 15th until the 16th because fuck your commercialised bullshit.
