    Ideal Vacation

I'm just sitting here some time after two in the morning, another sleeples night. Anyway I was thinking and I thought id ask you guys what your ideal vacation is. I dont care if its possible or not, a dreams a dream.
I'm a fan of a tropical beach on an island god knows where with only myself, a lawn chair and a cooler full of beer to enjoy the sun and sea breez. Also a boat. A small, rusted, fishing boat tied to the pier, and Its all mine. Your turn.

I have the same idea as you. As I have expressed before, I'd love to visit Belize one day.

I guess it's the kind of place I should think about in thirty years or so...

    Jim: "How do you know?"
    Gene: "I don't!"
    Jim: "I knew it."
Gene: "That's okay. There's a first time for everything!"

Bora Bora! I could go and live there happily for the rest of my life. Tropical beaches and unspoilt areas that are not over commercialised are my thing.

That picture is gorgeous Mantis, that's exactly the kind of holiday I'd love to go on

Basically some remote, sun-drenched sandy place with a beautiful blue ocean right outside the doors. I'd want to try one of those resort ones where everything's included and they have a spa and everything... that'd be amazing!

    RE: Ideal Vacation

I've had a change of heart. Over the past few years I've contemplated moving to another country. My ideas ranged from China to places such as Thailand for cheap living. You see, if I could work hard and start my own business working online, I could earn British income even in a much cheaper country. Thailand interested me, until I saw this, and many other videos/pictures/articles...

Jesus H. Christ holy paradise, Batman! Sign me up! Seriously, though. I think a common view on this kind of thing is that people go to live abroad in tropical environments to retire. But why the wait? If I can figure out a way to earn money online, whether it's producing Android and iPhone games, ad revenue and marketing, or various other means, I should be able to sustain a living. Is it really that unreasonable if I can secure a decent income? Think about it. A pint of beer over there costs around 50p. A pint of beer here often costs a fiver; that's £5. (Although £3 in some cities if you're lucky.) Yes, it costs 1/10 of that in the Philippines. I could move into a cheap apartment at first, and believe me, they're cheap!

Added bonus? The second official language is English! At least half of all citizens know English. Unlike Thailand, I don't need to concern myself with learning another language. This all seems like a pipe dream to me, but when I consider the facts it doesn't need to be. I just need to sort things out over here, get a few games out of the door and see how much I earn, and estimate how I'll do financially over there. I could probably land a teaching job if worst came to worst if I complete a TEFL course.

There's something slightly ironic about all of this, though. As quoted from Kokirininja's signature, I once said this in the chat room:

(23:27:52) Mantis: I'm thinking of banning the whole of the Philippines from the site.
(23:27:56) Mantis: The whole bloody country.
(23:28:05) Mantis: Because that's where most of the parasites come from.
Parasites being the spammers, of course. I think I'll back down from that decision. In any case, I'm definitely going to visit the Philippines when I get the chance so I can get a little taste of what life is like over there.

That sounds like an interesting place to live. I'm actually planning to eventually head out that way. My grandpa was stationed out that way sometime before the Korean war and I was planing to stay with them. If you ever make it out that way yourself do you thing you'd have the guts to try balut?

As somebody who wants to try bugs and Cambodian fried spider, well, it looks a little nasty but I think I'd try it.

It doesn't matter where or when, it matters with whom.
And with such a person I'd love to go to Rome, to walk down its narrow streets and hear Italian language I like so much.
And I'd love to be near the ocean or a sea. I hate sunbathing but I love water.

Another posibility is a tent and a lake. One day of rain, because I love it dropping and tapping on the window, trees or whatever.

Ah, getting all philosophical on us. You make a great point that I regret to have overlooked.
At this point in my life though I'd rather go it alone. Half the fun would be finding someone along the way. Be it a beautiful women or some wild and crazy SOB friend who you meet in a bar fight and you know will have your back and be able to post bail. Though, sadly, that's not how the real world works. But a man can dream, oh yes a man can dream. I've noticed we're not allowed to fight drink and smoke anymore either.

I understand what violino is saying, but I too am planning my future alone with an expectation of possible improvisation. I have learnt lately that the single life isn't so bad, and I plan to move abroad alone. If I'm my own boss, there's no room for over-complication. I'd rather make new friends abroad.

Perhaps I could live near other expats. If I go ahead with this, I'll have no intention for marriage. Divorce is bad enough in the west, but if you're a western man in many Asian countries, divorce could mean losing everything. I'd settle for friendship and simple pleasures any day.
