    Black Friday/Cyber Monday Deals?

Does anyone know of some good Black Friday or Cyber Monday deals that will be happening this year?

I am just about done with Christmas shopping. I only have a few more things to get but I am on the lookout for a few items for myself, mainly for my computer.

If you spot any good deals, share them here.

I think Steam does a sale sometime during the Christmas season? I'm not certain, you guys would know better than I do. Newegg has some excellent deals each Black Friday, I got a laptop for about $400 off. I usually finish my Christmas shopping in November as well, but I'm looking at a house this year so I have been hesitant to drop my liquid cash in the event that I suddenly need it for a down payment.

Yeah, Steam does have a winter sale. I think it starts after Thanksgiving, maybe the first week of December? I don't remember.

I am sure your priorities will be accepted by your family and friends if you don't do gifts this year, at least I would hope so. I tried getting out of the whole gift-giving thing with my family and my mother started crying and told me I was ruining Christmas... Even though each year I struggle with money for 3 months just to get people gifts. *sigh* lol

Oh, I'm not skipping gift-giving or anything like that I just don't want to shop early or run my checking account low and then find a house I really like. In which case I'd need to wait for some stocks to sell or something before I could make an offer. My sister (i've talked about her before) started college this Fall. She's already dyed her hair and wears this funky new fashion & became vegan. She said she doesn't want to celebrate Christmas this year because she's bored of it or something. I know that's different than your case, but you just reminded me of that.

My parents were accepting of it but I'm rather disappointed because we get along well otherwise and always have. Christmas is my favorite holiday and I cut down a real Christmas tree every year & decorate & go present shopping & go to church and that will never change.

My reason for it had to do with greed. I actually told her and everyone else in my family if they want to get me anything to donate to a charity in my name like 8 years ago. My mom had a fit then and wouldn't you know it, just last year one of her friend's daughters did exactly what I wanted and she was praising her for it on the phone with me. I had to bite my tongue.

I love the idea of Christmas but it hasn't been what it should be in many years with my family. I actually love buying people gifts and decorating, hanging lights, and well.. My family kind of ruined it all for me. I think once my husband and I buy a home and are able to do more with our space, we will make it would it should be. If children do come into the picture for us, I want them to look forward to this time of year and not just for the presents.

I have a sister who stopped gift-giving. Unless there are genuine reasons like financial troubles, yeah, this kind of decision can cause a lot of family issues. I haven't had much respect for that sister for quite a long time, but this recent trend is yet another reason to not regain any. I do believe in the probably overused expression: "It's the thought that counts." Even something cheap and cheerful is better than nothing. Actually, a gift that is made can be better than one that costs money.

I almost forgot I actually had to do that as a kid. Something so mind-numbingly boring would usually leave some impression, but not this time.
Gene: "Have faith in me guys, enjoy the ride—you're in good hands. I can handle this. I can do it!"
    Jim: "How do you know?"
    Gene: "I don't!"
    Jim: "I knew it."
Gene: "That's okay. There's a first time for everything!"

I don't get involved in Black Friday stuff as I'm just not a huge shopper. Plus, it's kind of risky and to me a waste of time to wait so long for cheap stuff.

But yeah, giving up on gift-giving is a bold choice! I always go for small, but pertinent gifts to get the interest across.

Yeah, I can totally see things from your point of view as well. When it degrades to just gift-giving and shopping & wish lists it feels sort of empty. That's a large part of why I make certain to keep Church in the mix and spend plenty of my holiday hours just talking with family aside from the gift exchange. In my family at least Christmas hasn't been reduced to a husk of what it used to mean, it's still equal parts showing love to my family, spiritual, and gift-giving.

You know better than anyone else on OSN that I'm as stubborn as a goat and even if I became non-religious somehow I'd still go to church because I refuse to change my ways
Aside from that, it is absolutely the thought that counts, and I don't expect anything from my younger cousins or anyone without a job at the moment, but when someone of higher financial/career standing than myself opts out of gift giving in my family (one person has), then I expect that they are okay with not receiving any as well. It's an opt-in system in my opinion, but it shouldn't be a one-way street between financially stable adults in the same family. It's simply awkward when a 50 year-old shows up to collect their haul and then leaves. It's like the anti-Santa.

Ended up finding a leather jacket that was 50% off for my husband. That is what he is getting for Christmas.

I also got a few odds and ends at Walmart to finish up my seasonal shopping for the year. Not I have to play financial catch-up! lol

I wasn't even aware of yesterday being Black Friday. I heard nothing of it this year!

At least you don't have to play catch-up as much as you would've had you not gotten Black Friday deals though
