Call now, and we'll DOUBLE the offer!

Infomercials are on TV every commercial break, and some of the products actually seem useful. So, has anyone here bought any infomercial items before? If you have, have they actually worked?

I've actually bought Oxiclean a few times, and it works really well, especially for pet stains. Other than that, I haven't bought any, even with that inticing offer to Double the offer at no extra charge (just pay seperate S&H......wait a minute)

I've never trusted anything that has been advertised on TV as an infomercial. I don't know why, to be honest, but I just feel the products aren't as good compared to a product being advertised with a normal TV advertisement. We tend not to have too many over here in the UK and most of them are for pretty useless products, to be honest, that people could probably manage to live without. I do remember mentioning to someone one product which actually did seem pretty useless but they seem to all be pretty overpriced so we never really bought it.

They also tend to have special offers sometimes, "buy one and get the other half price" etc. and it just makes me even most hesitant.

I haven't gotten any myself but my grandmother bought popeil's showtime rotisserie and she says that it works really well. I'm considering getting one someday myself so I can make burgers or even whole chickens when my friends come over.

I love these infomercials because they make me laugh. I can predict what they are going to say. Some as seen on tv stuff is great but most of it is overpriced junk. I love the parodies that have been done on Youtube. Specially with those reverse robe blankets. lol

Infomercials are a mixed bag, as usual with most things. Some are good, some are annoying!

Some can be pretty annoying when they are played back multiple times when streaming or on TV as well.

One that kept appearing for a while was for Mesothelioma. Ironically enough it wasn't the first time these people put the same ad. They must be raking the dough, these slimy ambulance-chasers

I didn't even know what an informercial is until a couple of years ago. That's probably because we use the word "adverts". (On a side note, isn't "charity commercial" an oxymoron?) Anyhow, I'm still not entirely sure what it means. Something like this?

Gene: "Have faith in me guys, enjoy the ride—you're in good hands. I can handle this. I can do it!"
    Jim: "How do you know?"
    Gene: "I don't!"
    Jim: "I knew it."
Gene: "That's okay. There's a first time for everything!"

Normally, an infomercial is supposed to be more than an advertisement. It has "information" attached to it. This includes a telephone number or website.

That technically qualifies as an infomercial. Though I will say that the most widely-known form of "infomercial" are long-form, several minutes to even an hour long. Usually those types of infomercials get placed in lower-traffic times of the day (before or after big news reports in the evening)

OOOOOOH man those advertisements are rampant in the US. Almost every commercial break for every TV show has something similar to this, and it's annoying as all hell.

Those are so annoying, just because of how much of a fucking sham they are.
