    Anyone collect Japanese items?

I recently started loving rice bowls, the ones made in Japan. My husband got me a rice bowl for Christmas with an adorable cat on it. It is high-quality and made from porcelain. I want to start a collection of them. I also love Maneki Nekos. I have some of them and plan to get a whole collection going. Always loved Japanese styled cats be it as collectibles or decor. Oh and furins. I do have one of those, a cat of course. I want to get more to hand around the house.

Do you collect anything that is part of Japanese culture outside of anime or manga related items?

Going by my dating history you'd think I was a collector of Japanese women.

For more family-friendly answers though, I have quite a few chopsticks from the time I was there. I also like tea cups. Not British-style (Sorry Mantis, bruv) but the cylindrical stone ones for green tea. I wouldn't call any of this a collection, and my manga/video game collection is so massive that I really can't begin collecting anything else in earnest. I would like to get more Japanese kitchenware like knives and tea-making instruments (traditional kettles and stuff like that. Another tetsubin maybe?).

My sister has an envious collection of Studio Ghibli movies on DVD, if I'm not mistaken she has finally hunted them all down. Ever since my wife moved here and brought all her stuff from Japan, every other item in my living space is Japanese anyway so it's really difficult to say what counts as a collection and what doesn't.

I actually have an old bokken in my closet somewhere. An old job that I used to work at had a guy who brought into work one day and then quit and apparently forgot to take that with him. My boss asked me if I wanted it and I said sure and had it ever sense.

When I was in Hokkaido I woke up early one day to check out their fish market around 7/7:30am. The crowd had already died down if you can believe that, and it was blustery and snowing. I ducked into a whale shop, to see what the hell that was. Whale meat, bones, etc. The lady running the place clearly hasn't seen a lot of foreigners and at first she was apprehensive that I may be one of those PETA types, but once she saw that I was genuinely interested she started showing me all of her cool whale-bone stuff. My favorite was a bokken made out of a whale's rib-bone. She let me hold it and it was super heavy.

For the language or just general stories?

Either way, pretty cool to have a book collection. I never was able to get into books. Wish I had been able to.

WHAT IS JAPAN? A MISERABLE LITTLE PILE OF SECRETS!!
"It turned out that the ghost was just Mr. Finley, who ran the amusement park. The spooky part is that, as soon as the ghost appeared, the teenagers' dog began to speak! And it spoke in a tortured parody of human speech: 'relp me, Raggy,' it would say. 'I am an abomination and rould re rilled. Rill re, Raggy.'"

In all seriousness, I don't really. Unless you count Outlaw Star and Takeshi's Castle merchandise, that is. Which doesn't count anyway. Very occasionally I've had some Japanese food, but that's to eat, not collect. I guess video games technically count? I don't collect items because they're Japanese or for cultural reasons.

My girlfriend studied abroad and brought me back a rice bowl, and her mom got me a bento box. A project I have on my list is to build a custom kotatsu. From there I can say I will probably seek out other items to give a room a certain aesthetic or make the kotatsu more cozy.
