    Common Sayings

My guess is that the common phrases and sayings we use vary based on things like where we grew up and our families...So after my dad managed to turn a common one we use almost daily sometimes into an interesting piece of curiosity/a quasi-joke, I began to wonder...What kind of sayings do my fellow outlaws use regularly?

In my family, we have a few sayings we use almost daily, or at least weekly. One I know is common enough to have been the source of a comic elsewhere: "You know what they say about when you assume. You make an ass of you and me." The one that came up today is equally simple and punny:

"It's better to be pissed off than to be pissed on."

There are many ways that one can be twisted- trust me, I've seen a lot of them. But when I'm using the saying with my dad today...He decides to surprise me with this retort: "Unless you're on fire."

This made me start thinking about many things: is urine flammable? (Yes, I plan to google that.) What do other people say to acknowledge frustration and such?

So...I want to hear all about them now: The idioms and sayings you find you use a lot, ones you may not see often but find interesting...And what do they make you think about out of nowhere?

    Good topic!

"Useless as tits on a boar hog"

This quote you can thank my dad for. He's from the south, and apparently a veterinarian when it comes to the anatomy and biology of a boat hog

    "Fuck me sideways"

    "Jesus Christo"

    "Oh BILLY!"

These are just used for the average "oh shit" moments in my life.

I rather like your dad's bizarre analogy. I have never seen a "boar hog" before...I should really learn the difference.

Speaking of animal-related sayings, there's one my dad uses a lot (net seems to treat it as normal) that honestly irks me. "Screwed the pooch." I can't help finding it irritating...because of how my mind works. -.-

Hahaha there is a comedian named Michael Che and he did a stand up bit about that. He says only white people say that quote and he was wondering why dudes were fucking dogs hahahaha

I didn't see that one! I know the comedian though, as he's on SNL nowadays. I haven't seen his stand up before, though. I'm glad I'm not alone in finding that weird though. xD

Also, a saying I use a lot and then feel frustrated by is "sweat like a pig". It's a common one I was raised on, but I found out in a documentary that pigs DON'T SWEAT. They don't even have sweat glands, apparently. So...Wouldn't it mean I don't sweat at all? And here I am saying it to say I sweat buckets.

"Sweating bullets" is one I use a lot. Not sure the origin but yet another that came from my dad.

I've heard bleed like a pig but never sweat like one. Interesting :0

'Life begins at the end of your comfort zone' is a really good one. It's the kind of thing you'd find on someone's Facebook wall, but it rings true.
