    Happy New Year

It's that time of year again. Though it hasn't had a great start (as most of you will probably know) I hope 2017 will be a year to remember for the better. And for Outlaw Star Nexus too. But what are your plans for this year? As I explained in my journal I spent a large part of December (and some of November) recovering from an operation, and after that I've been recuperating.

Before I had the surgery I was on a diet that was actually working very well for me. (Finally!) It was literally impossible for me to continue it in hospital but since I'm returning home permanently very soon (rather than staying with family) I'll restart that diet plan. So, one of my 2017 goals is becoming fit and making new friends. Another is to dedicate more time to my projects like game development. Then there's Outlaw Star which I'll spend more time on. Perhaps in order of priority is getting Nexus more active, continuing work on the manga and introducing something rather special for Nexus in the near future.

    How about you guys?
Gene: "Have faith in me guys, enjoy the ride—you're in good hands. I can handle this. I can do it!"
    Jim: "How do you know?"
    Gene: "I don't!"
    Jim: "I knew it."
Gene: "That's okay. There's a first time for everything!"

I'm still working on finding a specialist for my heart procedure that works out of my preferred hospital... but that's one of my top plans for the year- getting my health in order! I'm going to work harder on my writing and focus on figuring out something I can publish, short or not. Fighting fears is always an important one too. So that's a lot of plans! I'll see what I get done soon enough though, huh?

Sounds like a lot of cool stuff in 2017 for you guys. I have dying dreams that I want to at least let the flame burn low so for Japanese I'd like to learn kanji and for my Korean I need more vocabulary as well. I want to get ready for travel again even though the depression and negativity is like hard.

Happy New Year, guys! It can only get better after last year. Best of luck to ya Mantis and June with your goals.

I know how you feel there Light, depression can be extremely debilitating. It's made harder by the fact that it's basically an invisible illness, people who have never struggled with it could never understand, or why it has such a negetive effect on our everyday lives. It's even more important for people like us to have goals we can strive towards I think, it's the only thing that can take our minds off of the pain. I'd like to get to a point where I can travel as well, the only thing really stopping me from doing that at the moment is myself.

Other than that, (following Mantis' lead) I want to get myself back in shape and work on making more happy memories that I can look back on. I'd also like to work on my drawing skills.

All damn good missions from all of you. Best of luck in this now current year!

I got a lot of resolutions to do. Some personal, others work related. But as it stands here's my current to do list for this year that I want to complete:

    - Acquire my HAZMAT Certification for my license

    - Acquire my Class A Commerical Drivers License (CDL A)

    - Acquire my Forest Arborist License

    - Work out more and get abs finally!

    - Continue running and try to do a 10k race at least this year.

    - After the licenses and certifications are completed, go back to reading my old college textbooks on learning Japanese once again and relearn Hiragana and Katakana. Then learn Kanji once and for all!

    - Get back into writing and write a few short stories.

And the most important one I am working on right now is to become a father

Hari: Having goals can be great for depression, but if you're anxiety driven like me, make sure to break up big goals into bite size pieces or you'll hurt yourself more. I actually have "get passport" on my list, so I can finally leave this country for a week someday. My friend offered to help me on that goal after she helps me find out what I need to have with me (she's in her 60s and has had hers for yeaaaaars). I at least want to go to Canada! Sadly travel is expensive. I should focus on making money too.

Sparky: Are you expecting or trying to expect? According to my family's history, trying is usually the wrong method. My parents couldn't conceive when they were trying, then when they stopped? Me! That said...I demand pictures in the future.

Nice, I still have the flash cards from when I learned hiragana and katakana and some basic Japanese in 2005. I wish you the best of luck. I've been planning to start learning again myself, though the reasons are more business-related than anything. The thing is, I really worry about remembering (or even writing) a lot of kanji, whereas hiragana/katakana seemed more like our own alphabet in terms of the character count. I liked how curved hiragana was and still remember some of it nearly twelve years later. A lot of kanji looks the same to me, so I worry about it.

    WHAT YEAR IS IT!?!

Dang folks, it's been a whirlwind over here!
But now I'm back here with two new resolutions:
1- be more active on the Nexus
2- be more active on the Nexus
3- learn to write on grains of rice
4- refer back to steps 2 and 1

How's everyone now that we're knee-deep in this mess?

How tiny does writing on a grain of rice have to be? And why that goal? I'm curious.

Those other three sound like ones a lot of us have. I wish you luck for all of them!
