"Healthy Food" is not what it seems

I remember for the longest time, places like Subway were dubbed the healthy option when it comes to fast food.

For the first time in years, I got it the other day and looking over the nutrition, it is nuts how quickly calories add up and how unhealthy the food can be. I always just get vegetables with sweet onion, so the worst part of my sub is the bread. It ends up being low in calroies and still relativly healthy but compared to what I was seeing on the menu... YIKES!

People trust places like this to ensure they are heating healthy meals when the truth is, most of what they server is unhealthy, over portioned, or just plain bad for you.

I even read into salads at other places having more calories than burgers and fries, how is that possible! lol

I used to be really into health & nutrition, at least in the sense of dieting (I hate exercise), so I know where you're coming from with all of this. Unless you're ordering plain iceberg lettuce & using water as dressing, it's more or less impossible to eat a healthy meal at a restaurant. Even if the calories are low, they can get you with other things. For example, want a salad or lettuce on your burger at McD's? They (at least used to) soak their lettuce in a sugar-water mixture to make it taste better.

As for salads being worse than burgers/fries that's true! I had that happen to me. I used to go to Red Robin every week with some friends, and one week I swapped my usual burger for a salad. It was more expensive, and when I looked at the menu again it was 300 calories higher than my usual burger/fry combo. It's all in the dressing they use, i believe.

Eating healthy is a meme these days, it's just funny to even try. Every 5 minutes some news comes out about how the thing you thought was healthy is actually carcinogenic or made out of ground up baby bones seasoned with slave semen. Get yourself a wife that cooks, it's the only way.

    "Everything gives you cancer."
-- Latest report from investigation into foodstuffs.
"It turned out that the ghost was just Mr. Finley, who ran the amusement park. The spooky part is that, as soon as the ghost appeared, the teenagers' dog began to speak! And it spoke in a tortured parody of human speech: 'relp me, Raggy,' it would say. 'I am an abomination and rould re rilled. Rill re, Raggy.'"

I still remember them pushing eggs as being bad, then good, then bad, then good, and now bad again. Same with coffee. Same with pretty much everything else. Most things have good aspects and bad aspects, you can kill yourself drinking too much water after all. The problem is that most stuff, the bad outweighs the good.

You are right, cooking at home is the safest approach because you know exactly what you are eating.
