    Knock off or copycat Recipes

Have you ever tried making a copycat recipe for an item from one of your favorite restaurants? If so, how did it turn out?

We don't have many restaurants nearby, so we don't dine out terribly often (sometimes, if we're in the city). I learned how to make some comparable items to kill the craving. I even tried a couple of those copycat recipes. They didn't come out exactly like the branded items, but they weren't too bad.

Now, I want to try to make some of the side dishes, like maybe coleslaw from one of the fast food places (my coleslaw sucks lol). What about you?

To try and copy a recipe, i should first learn how to cook at all.

I have not but I am still learning to make things on my own. I was never taught much as a child so yeah... lol

I would like to make home-made Chipotle to save money since it is usually like $10 for (including a drink and chips) but I honestly can't be bothered. The guacamole is something I LOVE but anytime I have tried to make it I fail horribly. lol

You are quite funny @S1LVERST@R35, you have got to be kidding me. So you don't know how to cook in this modern time? I think you should be charged and jailed in cooking/food prison, so that you learn to do so my force.

Well, I really do enjoy cooking and I love trying out what I have never prepared before. I think the next thing that I would planning on making next is fried rice and chicken. I only know how to prepare the orthodox jollof rice, so I need to up my game in adding fried aspect of it to my dairy.

You're a bit like me then lol. I mean, I can make the basic stuff and a few "complex" things like roast beef or peri peri chicken. Other than that, I can't really cook although I've been told by my mum that she is going to start teaching me how to cook during my gap year (which I am on right now). I have never really tried to copy any recipes or meals from restaurants. If I like a particular thing then I will just go back to that restaurant to eat it. I have however tried to copy the Garlic and Herb dip that Pizza Hut and Dominoes have. I can never manage to find the sauce in any supermarkets. Every single "garlic and herb" sauce I have tried just doesn't taste the same at all. If anyone knows where I can buy a massive bottle of it, please do tell me

Yeah, I can copy KFC breaded chicken and it's gravy well, about 80 percent but close enough. It really taste like KFC though.
I marinate the chicken cutlets in buttermilk overnight and mix 12 different spices with cornstarch, salt and a bit of flour to make the breading. It's also a good breading for pork chops.

I'm not really a great cook but that doesn't mean I haven't tried recreating some of the delicious meals I've been served on restaurants. Some of the recipes I managed or at least I like to think I did but some were just out of my league.

Does anyone know if there is a copycat recipe for any of the chain pizza places' sauces out there? I sometimes get a taste for Pizza Hut sauce but I don't want a whole pizza. I would just rather make the sauce and eat it over some of my own noodles lol
