    Lightbulb Today I Learned...

Thought this was a fun idea, given how popular this is on reddit, etc. I'd normally put this in Tenrei but since it might spark some discussion, it's not so much of a game anymore and just a Clyde's Bar thread. Feel free to discuss previous posts but also say what you learned today.

    To start us off...

Today I learned that the Polish Army raised a bear called Wojtek during World War II and they officially enlisted him, eventually reaching the rank of corporal. Apparently he helped with various duties like carrying ammunition crates. After the war was over he spent the rest of his life in Edinburgh Zoo.

    Today I Learned...-wojtek-jpg

I think we're a while off actually riding them into battle though...

    Jim: "How do you know?"
    Gene: "I don't!"
    Jim: "I knew it."
Gene: "That's okay. There's a first time for everything!"

That's a really interesting fact to learn. :o And this is a great idea for sure!

Technically last night...I learned from a comedy special about potty training and how males have to sit to use the toilet...or something.
Also today I learned about health effects of different kinds of underwear? o.O

(Learned 1/27, editing because no one's posted after me xD) - I watched an unusual documentary about studies into breasts/breast milk and how they've shown we have all sorts of chemicals in our bodies from exposure including fire retardant. Yes, you heard me. There's fire retardant in the milk mommies make for babies. And probably BPA.

Today I learned about a notorious robber called the Bombshell Bandit who turned out to have more of a reason for her heists than just plain money lust. Her gambling problem turned into something much worse. I've only gambled a few times, but I always won and it does concern me about whether the thrill of it could spiral out of control quite easily like it did for her. I hope she's learning her lesson in a cell, at any rate.

Today I learned that even though voluntary time off is great and all at work, it has serious repercussions on the paychecks. Take VTO in moderation, folks!

Today I learned that sometimes, the people who you consider as family would also be the ones who would stab you from behind. And the ones you spend a lot of time with and you consider as friends are the ones who treat you more like a real family. Too bad it's a bit late for me to learn this.

I know I'm just a random stranger on the internet, but I'm sorry for that. I've read about many betrayal stories (and my main character in the novel I write is pretty good at it too) but a thing like this in real life is just depressing. If you need someone to talk you, I'm all ears. It's a good thing to learn the lesson earlier than later. Just don't let it bother you too much (I know that people can sometime go into a dilemma about who their real friends are and then become a total anti-social).

Today I learned that a word gets added to dictionary every two hours. This was a bit unexpected since I didn't expect new words to come so fast but then I realized after going through the new words that they're also catching up to the old words and slangs. For example, 'hella' was added recently (last year). I'm pretty certain that people have been using the word 'hella' commonly all around the globe and that it should have been added much earlier(maybe 5 years earlier).

Well I am Polish so that makes me feel pretty proud of my peoples to raise a bear. I am only kidding, at least a little bit, but it is kind of cool and an interesting little fun fact from our history, so thanks for that.

Today I learned that a guy was shot during a "swatting" prank. He could have been killed. If found guilty, the offenders could be sent to prison for twenty years. Swatting involves finding out a person's address (usually somebody who is streaming gameplay on sites like Twitch), calling the police (or terrorist line, etc.) and pretending to be the person, saying you're going to kill your family, etc. Then the SWAT forces go to the house. They think it's funny, because in many cases the SWAT raid is caught during the video stream, and the person is recorded being knocked down and arrested, etc. I mean, I can see why people might find some curiosity in watching videos of the raid (I'll own up to this too), but it's a horrible thing to do.

It's only a matter of time until somebody dies from this. So I think it's a good thing if the pranksters get twenty years as it might stop others from doing the same thing.

I almost never triple post, but now I'm gonna because I learned a mind-blowing fact today and remembered I made a thread for these things approximately two years ago.

Did you know that "slang" is slang for shortened language? Well now you do! Slangception! I also learned that the most Steam games somebody currently has on their account is 22,140. I suddenly don't feel quite as guilty.
