What is something you have owned for a very long time?

I was thinking back to all the cool stuff I had growing up and the fact that I didn't keep any of it really sucks.

I did remember though that I do have one thing that I have had since I was maybe 8 years old. It is a small ceramic figure of Simba from the Lion King as a baby. He is laying in a leaf. It is small and it has a few chips on it but the fact that I managed to keep something that can be easily broken this long is impressive considering I am prone to breaking things lol

What is something you have owned for a long time, maybe since your childhood?

I'm pretty much in the same boat -- threw away or sold almost all of my childhood possessions throughout the years, and I definitely regret it. Most of it was junk of course, though there are a few things I really wish I had kept, like all of my original games/consoles.

One thing I did manage to keep was my collection of playing cards: Magic the Gathering, Pokemon and a few obscure games. I have them all the cards neatly tucked away in storage binders that I rarely ever take out, but when my son gets a little older I look forward to passing them down to him and letting him marvel at them like I once did.

Definitely hold on to your little figurine. It's good to have a few baubles from the past, they can be a link back to good memories when you re-visit them in the future.

I had a binder filled with Pokemon cards but sold them at a garage sale when I was like 15 or so cause I wanted money to buy something. I don't even remember what I bought and I think I only made like $20 off of them and there were hundreds. My brother still has his though. He has a lot of stuff from when he was a kid cause he is a bit of a hoarder. I do have my first Gameboy color, just no games.

I guess you asked for it. I have a box I've used to store a bunch of things from my childhood. It was a pretty good idea. My mother actually put it together as a Christmas present a year or two back.

Probably my favourite item is the "Dinosaur Adventure" book...

I distinctly remember this being read to me when I was less than five years old. I remember the whole story.

Basically, they just swap the names. So in my case the names of two of my friends and my sister are in it. It's a pretty cool story. I wanted to see a real dinosaur and my wishes were granted when I got transported to the Jurassic Period! Then I saved a brontosaurus from a couple of mean pterodactyls. Yeah!

    You wouldn't guess it, but...

The dinosaur is actually a Tyrannosaurus tex. (...I'll leave now.)

No real '90s kid's childhood is complete without a particular hedgehog...

I remember spending hours playing with this. It's a bit like a jigsaw puzzle in a ball. You can rotate all the pieces and then put Sonic and Tails back together again.

Now, some of my Sonic toys. If I was Christian Weston Chandler I'd have hired a lawyer and filed a lawsuit for failing to make Sonic's nose black.

Whatever I was... I was bloody disgusting.

    Jim: "How do you know?"
    Gene: "I don't!"

You have one amazing mother. I wish my mom did something like this for me. She didn't really hold onto anything other than old school work. Like I care about that? I would have loved to have a box filled with some toys from my childhood. Just to look back and maybe one day share with a kid of my own.

While I don't think schoolwork is the best keepsake, it's still worth holding onto. Unless your mother's some sort of neat freak who throws away just about everything, you never know, maybe there's something somewhere. Plus, you'll always have Simba around.
