Pay it Forward (the concept, not the movie)

Have you ever started a Pay it Forward thing or had someone start it with you? I've had a couple of people do this. The one in front of me paid for my purchase, so when I went to pay, it was already taken care of. What a nice gesture.

I'm trying to come up with creative ways to do this. I think it's just such a great thing. You never know, it might be just the thing to turn someone's day from bad to good. I know it did for me.

I don't think I have ever made something like what the kid did in the movie, I mean something that is really great. I do good stuff since I believe in karma, but doing something extra ordinary is different. But that idea is nice, if you think about it, even if just one person would start doing that and infect three more people who would do the same I think the world would be a better place in just a year or two.

I actually read an article recently where this happened and it continued on for a long time until the store had to close down unfortunately for the night. I'll try and find the article sometime. It happened at a drive through and it started when a woman saw a man with several kids in the car behind. She paid for their food and then that man did the same for the people behind his car. That just continued which makes you appreciate and realise that there are some nice people out there in the world. It was a shame that the restaurant had to close because it would have been nice to see how long the pay it forward thing went on for . I'm not sure if I would start one to be honest. It's a nice idea though

I had to search this. The basic concept is a good idea but it isn't practical. Not many people are saints. Many people would say they'd "pay it forward" but they'd probably forget about such a promise in a few days' time. Also, some people can get offended by others' spontaneous good deeds. They wouldn't want any form of charity. It's a behaviour I've seen many times.

This idea comes from fiction for a reason.
Gene: "Have faith in me guys, enjoy the ride—you're in good hands. I can handle this. I can do it!"
    Jim: "How do you know?"
    Gene: "I don't!"
    Jim: "I knew it."
Gene: "That's okay. There's a first time for everything!"

It's a good thing to do and I believe that if all people do this, it would be a wonderful and peaceful world. But I guess that's just impossible It's not hard to be kind, it's actually nice to be kind, to do good to others. Even if it's impossible to change the whole world, I believe that by simply doing good deeds can change something, maybe not today but one day

I don't even think it has to be about changing the whole world. Just making one person's day a little brighter, is also a good thing. If they do the same at some point, another person's day is better. It's a small gesture of kindness, and even if only a few people are impacted by it, at least a few more people were treated kindly.

@Mantis, it's true that some will get offended. Some people will refuse the offer outright. Even so, the ones that accept might be touched by it and might be a little kinder to the next person they encounter (even if they don't buy them anything). I don't think it could ever keep going non-stop, because like you said people are different and it just isn't practical. I still think it's a nice thing though.
