Why do people always look for reasons or excuses to hate each other?

I noticed this a lot more over the last 5 years than ever in my life and it becomes most apparent when there is voting to be done. I don't know if people are being brainwashed into this way of thinking or what but it seems a bit ironic when you think about it. So many people want to move forward into the future and not be held down by the past yet they look for differences so they can hate each other for it, it is as if racism and sexism got replaced with political labels. People are no better today than they were 100 years ago... They are still pulling out the dumbest reasons to hate each other that make no logical sense.

Maybe I am seeing it more because I spend more time online? I really don't know. I just don't understand it. I guess for many it is easier to hate without reason than to love with just cause.

It's because everyone believes that they're the best. Everyone has their own opinion and perception of things, and we are all different in one way or another. Hate is not all that bad, and some make use of criticism to improve themselves.

As Novice said, it's because people don't want to look inside and see what's wrong. They just want to point the finger and put others down because it's easier and a power trip.

I find that people that choose to hate a person specifically (unless one has completely betrayed the other) don't make any effort to have a legitimate reason for it or get to know you. It's just easier that way to label you as 'bad'.

I don't think hate and criticism are neccessarilly always linked. Sometimes people just take ill against one another without much reason.

Hate within reason is where criticism and actual discussion come in. It's the difference between an argument and a discussion.

The hardest thing for me to get over is when I try to give someone the benefit of the doubt and always be friendly/nice but they choose to hate me anyways seemingly without reason.
It's fair to say sometimes people just don't gel or are just different (especially if it comes to talking about hating over opinions) but sometimes there are just people who go out of their way not to be nice for whatever reason.

Not sure if that's what the question is about though

I try and make an effort to be nice to everyone I meet and I don't wish ill on anyone. So on that note, I hope everyone has a lovely day!
