    Pet Peeves

What are your pet peeves? I'm often annoyed by poor English. For instance, people saying "would of" instead of "would have". I'm not going to list all of my pet peeves in one post as I want to spread this thread out a bit more. A current annoyance I have to deal with is my flatmate, who on a nearly daily basis sings really badly. It annoys the hell out of me as his room is next to mine. I can honestly say I sympathise with these martians as I feel the same pain.

    Over to you.

    Jim: "How do you know?"
    Gene: "I don't!"

Gene: "That's okay. There's a first time for everything!"

    RE: Pet Peeves

When I used to live in student halls, I couldn't stand the guy that lived in my next room for some reason. Everytime I heard him open and close a drawer I'd get so frustrated, haha.

I got a feeling I've probably said would of once or twice

I think my main pet peeve is when people ask me what I'm doing at Uni or how is Uni going or anything Uni-related. Not only have I talked about it a million times in the past 3 years, I do not even WANT to talk about it, so stop asking! argh.

    RE: Pet Peeves

Yeah, well this guy doesn't understand that I want to sometimes cook/eat alone, and I often have to literally sneak into the kitchen so he doesn't hear me, as he often follows me into the kitchen to talk. I ask him what he's getting to eat, and he says he's getting nothing and just loiters around. Worst of all is when he leaves his door open, so it's impossible for me to get past without being bugged in some way. I don't mind talking to people, but he talks about very obscure things or topics that only concern himself, and when I start talking he cuts me off and goes back to his own topics.

I'll admit, sometimes I've been guilty of asking about uni life, but it's usually only when I don't know the person well enough to know what they'd like to talk about. I'm getting a little tired of the conversation starter, "How are you?" lately, but that's because my life's been so uneventful recently I don't know what to talk about. XD

That brings me to another annoyance which happens more often on instant messenger—people using "cool" or "lol" or "hehe" as fillers when they have nothing to say. I could understand just a little if I'm not making good conversation, and maybe that's sometimes the case, but good conversation is a mutual thing. Some people I've talked to seem to have a vocabulary that mostly consists of those words, and I'd be better off talking to a wall.

    RE: Pet Peeves

    (HOW'S UNI LOL?)

Right, pet peeves... Oh ****, this could go on forever. One of mine is ****heads who incessantly shout while on the 'phone. It makes me believe that they're too thick to realise the technology 'carries the sound' for them, and makes them look like the intolerable 'holes that they are.

Another one is people who have the inexplicable misunderstanding that I give a **** about their 'love life' and try to initiate conversation with that topic. I couldn't give a toss. I really couldn't. Why would I care? Not to sound selfish, but it doesn't affect me in any way whatsoever, and it never will. I'm really not interested, so if you won't change the subject to something we can both talk about, you can shut up, drink up, and **** off.

I'll stop there before I break something. Just thinking about these is enough to irritate me to a ridiculous level.

And it spoke in a tortured parody of human speech: 'relp me, Raggy,' it would say. 'I am an abomination and rould re rilled. Rill re, Raggy.'"

    RE: Pet Peeves

    Haha, cheery as usual.

I guess we differ there in one way. Well, actually, I can relate a bit. Sometimes I'd talk about my relationships to people, but only if I know it's the kind of thing they want to talk about. That's probably why you haven't heard me talk about my relationships in the past two years and if I ever did, I got the message. I hate it when people whine about their relationships when it comes to problems that keep happening again and again and again! However, in all other cases I'm usually happy to help most people with most problems. Even relationship stuff. But it pisses me off when people ask me for advice on something, and then later come back and start whining about the exact same problem.

As for the phone thing, I hate it when people use phones in study areas. They should fuck off outside if they want to use the phone, and the most annoying thing about it is that the library staff here don't seem to give a damn about it. It's a 24/7 library and the warden guy who's there most nights just watches films on his laptop and does nothing. What a job. (I wouldn't complain if I was him.)

I don't like the phrases "Box lunch", "Bagged lunch", or "Boxed lunch". Don't know why, they just bother me.

It's packed lunch here in the UK, and damn, I loved those back in my childhood school days.

You want to know the worst instance? A few years ago, when my ex decided I wasn't good enough anymore, I spent the following week or so wondering what to do with my newly-acquired free time, sitting around scratching myself but generally taking it all pretty well (because to be honest, I saw it coming a mile off... if only I'd been in first and got rid of her!).

Anyway, a few weeks passed, and BEHOLD! She sends me a text, full of incoherent sentences about how "being dumped sucks".

All I really could do in this situation was send back "lol", turn my mobile off, and continue to get very drunk while failing miserably at Megadrive games.

And that's what pisses me off about this; exes who suddenly come crawling back after making such seemingly firm decisions and discarding you like a box of cold chips. *****, please - make your ****ing mind up before doing something!

Oh gggod this is so my pet peeve. WUBU2 and all that crap. These mindlessly boring people can't even be bothered to write 'What have you been up to today, friend?' or something vaguely interesting. Thankfully I don't really talk to such peoples anymore and stick to people I know lol. To be honest though I don't try to make the conversation more interesting if they are one of these croonies, I'm just like, 'fine thx', 'cool' or most likely just ignore them. I hate boring small talk like that online.

    RE: Pet Peeves

Case in point, just now. As soon as I saw his message pop up, I cringed. I knew how this conversation was going to end up. I don't know what to say to him because it's like communicating with an animal or something. Anyway, I was right.

    Annoying Guy says:
    *hey
    Mantis says:
    *Hello.
    *You alright?
    Annoying Guy says:
    *yeah, you?
    Mantis says:
    *Sorry, someone at the door.
    *Yeah, what you up to?
    Annoying Guy says:
    *nm
    *you
    Mantis says:
*Just playing about with my Open Pandora. You gaming much lately?
    Annoying Guy says:
    *yeah
Yep. He said "yeah". That's it. He didn't send another message. Talking to him has been so frustrating, I lost it and blocked/deleted him tonight. Goddamn it.
