    Spring Cleaning (2021)

Anyone doing any spring cleaning this year?

I try to make a point to go through my stuff once or twice a year and either donate, giveaway or just toss what I don't need. I think this stems from my family having hoarders. I feel overwhelmed when I have too much. I do feel I have more things than I should which will only be amplified when I move. Hoping to move this year (buy a house) or move to a bigger space (renting a larger house) so I want to be better prepared by decluttering what I have. I will be starting this week. I focus on one kind of thing at a time so I will start with kitchen stuff and then do clothes another day.

I've been trying to work up the motivation to do some spring cleaning in the house and all I can say is good grief, I don't even know where to start. This place is pretty cluttered and I've given up after the kitchen.

I get that sometimes. Like I look around and just can't pick a room or area so what I usually do is just focus on something smaller like a closet or a dresser. I often find that I end up spreading out the cleaning without realizing it because I have to move to other areas to pack and reorganize things.

I haven't looked, but I feel like we had the same thread last year, lol. Even if you do Spring Cleaning...if we're back at the same point 1 year later I wonder if it's a futile effort

Your strategy of compartmentalizing the cleaning efforts is good, that's what I do as well. An entire room/floor of the house is often too daunting of a task so focusing on a small area helps me to handle things. Do you have a timeframe for that house move? I bought a house last year, perhaps I could give some tips when the time draws near for you. I'm sure you'll make a thread about it once it's a concrete thing.

I probably did make a thread for this last year which is what I figured, that is why I put 2021 on the title of the thread. I talk a lot online and forget what general threads I make on what sites lol

We are currently looking at options. We want to save a bit before we move but if we can swing it, like find a house cheap enough in an area we want, we will likely just push to move right away. Outside of that, fall seems to be the earliest realistically. We need to save a bit more to have a decent down payment.

One of my biggest clutter problems I have is the amount of cardboard and paper I accumulate from all of the online orders I place. Mostly from Amazon, which goes for groceries too as they come in big paper bags. It's possible for me to tear them up myself but it takes longer than you'd think for dozens upon dozens of them. That's the only real way to dispose of them for when "rubbish day" comes. I don't have a "dumpster". I decided to buy a heavy-duty shredder that is completely gobbling all of my cardboard, and it's obviously good for the usual purpose of disposing of private information. And junk mail, I get so much of that!

I guess the biggest irony is that I can't dispose of the large cardboard box it came in. At least not until the warranty period ends. But really, it has been saving a lot more space than I expected. I have had a clutter problem for years so spring cleaning has become more of a priority this year. Admittedly I've never been good at it. Some people have a knack for getting homes spick-and-span. I ain't one of them. I won't even accept help from my ex-cleaner mother because I'm stubborn and want to do it all myself.

That is something I still want to invest in. I am one of those people who removes shipping labels and tears up all my mail and puts it in different garbage bags because I am paranoid lol

A shredder would be helpful and as you mentioned, it would really allow me to get rid of a lot more garbage in one bag.
