Stuff that really scared you as a kid

Whether or not it's still scary to you now, what scared you as a kid? I'm sure a lot of you remember that I'm terrified of squid to this day due to an incident when I was 3 or 4 years old.
Likewise, there was this late-90's or early 2000's Tom Sawyer movie, there's a scene where Tom is in a cave and comes across a corpse that's way too detailed for a kid's movie. Scared the bejeezus out of my cousin and I (i'm pretty sure the movie was called "Tom and Huck").
There's also that scene in PeeWee's Big Adventure with Large Marge......OOF.

Courage the Cowardly Dog is off-limits for this thread since we all know "Return the Slab" scared everyone as a kid.
"Out of the ground, raze all greenery with flame! Fire2!"

I was terrified of tornadoes. Anytime I would hear the news say we were under a watch or a warning, I would grab all my favorite toys and throw them in the dryer in the basement and I would sit down there with my cat. Sometimes for 30 minutes, sometimes for 2 hours. I am still scared of them but now I understand them better and I know when to take things serious.

I can't really think of anything specific or particularly interesting, although there was bound to have been something; all kids get scared of something, especially when very young.
"It turned out that the ghost was just Mr. Finley, who ran the amusement park. The spooky part is that, as soon as the ghost appeared, the teenagers' dog began to speak! And it spoke in a tortured parody of human speech: 'relp me, Raggy,' it would say. 'I am an abomination and rould re rilled. Rill re, Raggy.'"

Can't really think of much right now. When I was around ten years old I became really scared of heights after hanging off a huge cliff. (Shouldn't have looked down.) Although, saying that, I'm now fine going to the top of the Eiffel Tower or a tall skyscraper if I'm not near the edge.
Gene: "Have faith in me guys, enjoy the ride—you're in good hands. I can handle this. I can do it!"
    Jim: "How do you know?"
    Gene: "I don't!"
    Jim: "I knew it."
Gene: "That's okay. There's a first time for everything!"
