Do you think it is weird to give your SO a "pet name"?

A lot of couples do this and I only did once when I was way way younger. I hardly ever said it because it sounded stupid to me. I haven't done it since. I have thought about it with my husband but at this point, it just seems like something some cheesy teens would do. Maybe that is just me.

What are your thoughts on this?

I understand why you would feel uncomfortable about it but you have to admit, it was fun while it lasted. Giving your Significant Other a pet name is cute until perhaps you start feeling you have grown out of it. Most of the time we just get bored and use maturity as an excuse. I remember when my girlfriend and I used to have the cutest names for each other. After going through a rough patch in our relationship, the magic sort of fizzled out and the idea of pet names escaped both of us. You are right though, pet names are fun in teenage when the love is new and fresh.

I think it is normal to give your SO a pet name as your relationship continues to build. Couples mostly use them during the first years of their relationships, which is an indication that they are really happy.

I tend to only hear of people using things like "babe" or "hun" which I think is like the standard for most people. I am talking about names like "snuggle bear" and things of that nature. You have a point though but it doesn't make sense that they end.

One of my exes did this and because she liked it I did the same. It was all pretty silly but we were both teenagers. As for adults doing it, I don't know. Maybe in private? I never really liked women who are super-serious about everything. Being immature sometimes is just a way of having fun, but I've been single for so long I hardly remember those times.
