    RE: Mythos

Data, as you say, in our terms is not the proper term thing.
Perhaps it is better to say that it is living wisdom, and all the power that implies.

    Deep is good,
means that this show was more than just magic and fancy space ships.
    So much more...

That would be our best bet, because I can tell you a big spoiler about the manga if you want?
A spoiler that would show you why we wouldn't find our answer there.

Indeed, I do realise our interpretation of data would probably be different, though it did seem similar in the Leyline. It was, as Gene put it, "cyberspace". As for the spoiler, I'm intrigued. Go ahead, though in this case I'd recommend a spoiler tag as this is the anime forum and the spoiler is of the manga.

    Manga
The manga ends with the crew overcoming a traitor and shooting off into space.
They never even made it to any kind of leyline.
    A very sad fact.

    RE: Mythos

Now that's interesting. So the only thing to turn to is the novels. I wonder if the novels were based around the anime or the manga. Probably the manga, but with the anime's popularity at the time, who knows? I'm fairly sure the guy mentioned in the Laser Disc thread is legit. I'm going to request a small interview with him. Since he's probably worked on a lot of projects, I doubt he'll know a lot, but I might ask him if he has any knowledge about Outlaw Star 2. If he's the script director, he's probably Japanese. After all, they didn't produce the script in the US obviously; the director probably produced preliminary translations and checked the full English translations were suitable.

So, maybe he'll know a little something? Or maybe if I manage to get some scripts from him, we'll know a little more about Outlaw Star. Who knows what the future will bring?

It's a wonderful cornucopia of possibility Mantis.
Whatever the outcome, it's going to be something special.

    RE: Mythos

Wikipedia quote about the novels: "Rather than introduce a new storyline, these books are a novelization of the anime series, retelling the early events that trigger Gene and company's search for the Galactic Leyline." Just early events though, unfortunately.

You could interrogate the guy from the emails about this!

How did they write the scripts?

    RE: Mythos

I have no idea, but perhaps I will find out. Hopefully he won't end up putting them on eBay. It would be much more just to give/sell them to someone who runs a community of people who are passionate about the anime than some wealthy "collector" bastard who will pay any amount of money to collect anything, even if he doesn't have any reason for it.

I don't know if he'll know much about Outlaw Star though. It may have been his job to hire the VAs and supervise the script work, but it doesn't mean he'll take a big interest, and even if he did that's well over ten years ago. Even Kiefer Sutherland doesn't know the first thing about 24 compared to the average fan.

As mentioned though, if he accepts I'll ask one or two related questions in an interview.

    RE: Mythos

Thing is you guys are talking about these depthy back stories that the anime doesn't really go into, but

if the manga didn't even reach the Leyline then my guess is there aren't any depthy backstories.

The writers would have just written whatever was relevant to make the anime a full series.

I don't think they'd have bothered making sure every little detail makes sense. It's not Star Trek or LOTR.

    RE: Mythos

That doesn't mean there's anything wrong with speculation. What would you expect a couple of diehard fans to do? We can't say anything for sure yet until we have more information, and I'm confident that will come. I'll do whatever I can to find more information about this awesome anime. But for now, all we can do is speculate. Remember, if there's the slimmest chance, no matter how small, you have to go for it. Never give up hope. That's what it means to be an outlaw.
