The problem is to do with PHP versions. My current host is starting to force a PHP upgrade. This version of vBulletin only supports PHP5 versions but a change is being made to force PHP7. Practically every part of this forum relies on PHP5. The only other option aside finding a host that will retain PHP5 compatibility is essentially creating a new forum, almost from the ground up. Perhaps as the co-admin you might have a better idea.
A better idea? No, not really. I can only think of one alternative which would be hosting it yourself, but that would likely cause many more problems than it solves in thd long run. You'd have 100% autonomy to continue using PHP5 but zero support if/when shit hits the fan.

So the move is still a small while off (fortunately DreamHost hasn't pulled the plug yet but it will happen in the near future) but after plenty of research I think I've decided on how to move forward.

I'll probably be renting from Amazon Web Services. It's more manual than using a web host but it would allow me full freedom by running OSN on Amazon's servers instead. I just need to spend some time learning how to use AWS, install and configure the correct Linux distro, yada yada.
