Shouldn't be THAT hard, I mean the show was already more popular in the west than in Japan to begin with. But yeah you're right about Aisha's VA, I forgot she's retired from acting so it might be hard to find a suitable replacement for her.

I'd be open to it, and if it sucks i could always retreat to the original. Reboots of dead IPs don't really scare me since the series has gone dormant long ago regardless.

I might be open to a sequel series, but probably not a reboot. I'm not a fan of reboots in general, and I think OLS is largely fine the way it is. A sequel featuring an older, more mature version of the cast would be interesting, though. Perhaps it's set about thirty years after the original series ends, and we see a new protagonist who finds the crew, and ends up joining them for one last adventure. What do you guys think?

Yeah they had plans for an OVA called Sword of Wind, but that was scrapped for a planned manga sequel called Retaliation, which itself fell through, probably because of OS's lack of popularity in Japan.

Sword of the Wind failing to take off might be a blessing in disguise. From what I’ve heard, Aisha and Suzuka weren’t going to be in it.

As far as a reboot goes, in 2010 I’d have been all for it, but nowadays every reboot seems like a shameless way to cash in on nostalgia. Teen Titans Go, and the upcoming Thundercats Roar being the biggest offenders (even though TTG seems to be coming into its own recently.).

Adult Swim and FLCL proved that a reboot or second season for Outlaw Star wouldn’t be impossible, but I haven’t seen a single person that said they liked the new season, and the original FLCL wasn’t even that good (imo).

The real question isn’t “are we open to a reboot?” The question is “who would you trust to make it good?” As of right now, no animation studio seems to be up to the task of bringing back a classic show. Sailor Moon Crystal and Dragon Ball Super are the closest we have and those are beloved legendary shows that are getting the most effort available, and fans are still split down the middle about whether they like them or not.

Studio Trigger has the most potential to make a fun-as-hell reboot, but ever since Kill la Kill, they haven’t really been able to make a truly fun and entertaining show.

I rewrote my old Sword of Wind article for the new sister site I'm making. My analysis is more thorough and I came to some new conclusions about both Angel Links and Sword of Wind. But I'm only opening the new site once I've completed it all or the majority of it, so you'll have to wait for that. You'll definitely learn a thing or two though.

Oh man... I totally didn't even think about that, but that would be wicked! I love Kill la Kill, and that's totally the exaggerated and pure fun style that would definitely fit Outlaw Star! Hell yeah I'd be down for a reboot. As far as I'm concerned, it's better than nothing, and even if it sucks, the original Outlaw Star ain't going anywhere, baby!

Really? Maybe I should watch it a second time but I never really saw anything special in Kill la Kill. From what I remember it followed your typical shonen formula: long-ass battles and not a particularly detailed narrative. I enjoyed its animation but I'd probably rate it 6/10. On the other hand Outlaw Star is a seinen and it wouldn't fit the shonen mold. So a reboot would be best handled by a company that has made anime like Outlaw Star.
