    RE: Caster Gun

Just since I don't want to bump 4 different posts on this forum and the caster is kind of the crown of all my OLS stuff here is it all (Cels, Ship, and Caster, already commented on the shirt thread which would be #4 incase you're wondering ;p)

Here's everything but the caster itself is not sitting on it's stand (tough to tell but the ship itself is inked since the original is pretty much flat plastic colored, also that's Harlock's Arcadia on the right). Don't ask what happened to the caster

Here's the caster itself on the stand and with the shells, they're labelled 1-20 in jappo kanji. I'm sure you can guess what the gold ones are

    I'm sorry, but...

I happen to like Captain Harlock too! How much did the caster and shells set you back? If memory serves, the shells were pretty expensive. I also notice you painted the ship's stand white.

    RE: Caster Gun

Actually this Caster isn't done by the same guy. It's a bit more detailed and also the lines are smoother/thicker/don't stick out as much. It's also meant to be a display piece not really for cosplay, but it set me back around what people paid for the other dude's original built/painted in total.

Tough to see but it's silver and the bottom rungs of the star is actually in red, I'm gonna have to strip it and repaint it as I hate that but... The paint job was terrible, here's a couple pics to show off the inking but disregard the TERRIBLE base work... it has since been cleaned up but still the paint job clashes to me so I'mma switch it out.

Who doesn't like Harlock?! At least the designs which are GREAT! That's the Aoshima diecast arcadia, got some light up if you can make it out (bridge/deck/engines that you can't see).

Also the for the cels, the left one is unused (never was in the show), neither are production or even matching backgrounds.

I noticed you commented on the other thread about the pilot, I've toyed around with the idea of getting the caster from that one done as well. Maybe a future thing

edit: Also I'm glad to see these forums are for more active then some of my other passions that have aged. Like Skies of Arcadia (the forums barely get a whisper :*/) Props to you guys for keeping it alive and well I look forward to posting here.

Hold on a minute. *Gene's voice after seeing the El Dorado* I've seen that ship before. Seriously, the red/silver paint job. And you added more detail to the ship. I know I've seen this. Your cels look awesome. I should get mine framed. But I was wondering about how mine didn't have a background. I guess I could print a screenshot if I added some detail to it, and then calculate the background colour outside the cel by getting the average of a colour range on the cel's background. How much did you pay?

I'd totally get the Arcadia if it didn't probably cost a fortune. As for the caster gun, I might need you to put me in touch with that guy one day in the future. I thought something looked different about it. Although I'm not sure whether it should have more a a metallic/chrome look or more a matte/less glossy look. It looks awesome, though.

    RE: Caster Gun

I have posted the images of that ship (those specific ones) on tomopop and probably dtoid before. You can find random pictures of my nerdy collection sprinked on the sister sites, however none of them are up to date (even when posted ). And I've posted that image of my caster there as well. The only "new" (been sitting on my card for 3 months) is the one with the cels/everything.

Framing wasn't cheap, to the tune of $200 a piece. But I took it to a frame shop that deals with cels, so it's sealed/museum glass and those are metal frames (and 2 mats). I actually have a copy of the background on the left (there's nothing on them, just space). I'll see about taking it to work tommorow and getting a scan of it.

The Aoshima Arcadia was not actually that much, about $150. Not sure what they for now but that was above retail as well, it's a damn nice ship.

The picture comes off more metallic than it is, it's really not very metallic, just a tiny bit. And it's not the light tan color it's the darker brown color (as I preferred that one and it kind of jumped around).

I can put you intouch with the guy but I want to give you fair warning beforehand. He is terrible at getting stuff done on time. For the caster he told me 3 months and I didn't get it for 9. For my last commission with him I said 3-6 and it took about a year and 2 months. Once he starts working on it he's quick as a whip but he's seriously backed up. BUT! He is a GREAT guy. Really nice and his work is amazing!! So if you're willing to deal with that he is worth it, just wanted to warn you before I steer you somewhere.

    RE: Caster Gun

Hmmm, no idea where I saw it then. Perhaps a Google Images search. But I'm certain I've seen that modified stand before.

$200 seems like a good price to preserve my cel. I just hope I can find somewhere relatively nearby to do it for me. Unfortunately, I haven't really looked after my cel to the best standards, sometimes just storing it in places with no additional protection, but I'm sure it's just fine. Did your cels, like mine, come with an additional sketch? I guess I'll put that sketch elsewhere if I'm going to get it framed.

I'll look into the Arcadia sometime, then. I'm surprised there's still a fanbase for it, give how old it is. It certainly seems like more of a niche than Outlaw Star. As for the caster gun, well, I'm generally a patient guy. Especially given how much it costs. I just wonder how much the deposit is. I recall you mentioning this gun isn't for cosplay. Is that to say it isn't as sturdy as the other one?

Here's a small preview, space background.

Here's a link to the full sized one (you'll have to crop it and fix that egg that's bent). 4 megs so be patient when opening

Very possible on google image search, I think actually if you search "outlaw star ship" it's on the first page and a lot of my other pics show up on google search since I don't name them random numbers/whatever.

$200 seemed steep to me (cost almost 2x as much as my cel ) but it looks really nice so worth it. My first cel (left one) came with a sketch, but I wasn't keen on keeping it much so I actually gave it away to someone

Harlock has a pretty big fanbase, yeah it's old but the entire Starbalzers/Emeraldas/Harlock was big stuff back then. And oddly enough there's a new CG Movie coming out sometime.

And Endless Odyssey isn't really that old.... about the same age as OLS I think?

Uh.. I don't know how sturdy the other one is, I've held this one in my hand and stuff but yeah I wouldn't take it cosplaying. It's not fragile by any means but nothing something you want to bump against anything hard or drop it.
