Well more power to Blu-Ray, but I'm quite content with my DVDs. Unless there is something truly remarkable about the quality or any bonus content, I can't justify buying the same show again, and for such a price. I'll leave that to our great collectors

    Outlaw Star on Blu-ray?

Hey guys, help me out here.

    There are FOUR different Blu-ray’s...right?

The super mega awesome version: Outlaw Star on Blu-ray?-img_5510-jpg

The basic version (with or without the sleeve): Outlaw Star on Blu-ray?-img_5509-jpg

The UK version (which I think comes with a sleeve): Outlaw Star on Blu-ray?-img_5511-jpg

Uk region 2 (no idea if this has a sleeve): Outlaw Star on Blu-ray?-img_5512-jpg

Technically the only difference is the packaging and art book.....right? No 3D glasses?

Seriously though....am I missing one? Is there only four?

Why didn't I notice this sooner? You're not far off! There are currently six Blu-ray sets. In order of release:

Of course, the original Japanese set...

    Outlaw Star on Blu-ray?-osblu1-png

Good but expensive, and with only Japanese available it's only for the hardcore fans. Fortunately, the best Blu-ray is up next...

    Outlaw Star on Blu-ray?-osblu2-png

It's fatter than the Japanese one because it contains a really nice art book, and the box is just as beautiful too. In my opinion this original UK box set is the best version because you get the language options, the extras (the Brits made the art book—the Americans stole it for their version! ) and the presentation. All you need is a region-free player if you're outside of this region. They did release a budget option some months later...

    Outlaw Star on Blu-ray?-osblu3-png

This is considerably cheaper than the previous Blu-ray and I do think the alternative take on the art style makes for some really nice cover art. Not a bad option. Months after this came the two first US Blu-rays...

    Outlaw Star on Blu-ray?-osblu4-png

Combo packs are very popular in the US (fairly popular in the UK too) and these two boxes indeed provide for the times when you're stuck without a Blu-ray player. Almost never, but anyway, just in case you've got the DVDs as well. As for the box, honestly, I have mixed feelings. It's a great cover, but it's also recycled from the 2006 Japanese "Remaster" release. So if you're a collector like me, it won't stand out which is unfortunate for a Blu-ray. Now for the brother...

    Outlaw Star on Blu-ray?-osblu5-png

It's big and it's bold—easily identifiable as a US box set from the get-go! This is the collector's edition. I have mixed feelings. Having now held it in my own hands I do think it's nice, but the case slides off too easily, the colours are rather garish and the box doesn't really tell newcomers anything about the show! A design that is catered to hardcore and nostalgic fans of the show, surely! Extras are all there, also including a cool Melfina cardboard insert. (A nice "extra", really there to just keep everything in place.) Next up, a more wallet-friendly US option...

    Outlaw Star on Blu-ray?-osblu6-png

This is cool. Unfortunately it uses the same cover as the Blu-ray/DVD box, but if you like the cover that's fine. Like I said it's a great design, just reused. The difference is that this set doesn't have the DVDs, which to many people are redundant anyway. Instead it includes keys that allow you to activate an online stream of the show, so if you don't have the Blu-rays with you, you can watch the show online instead. Honestly I prefer this to the DVDs. When you consider that this is cheaper, I think this is the better budget option.

I own all of these sets so I've tried to give a non-biased opinion. I know a lot of people love the US collector's box though. If I was to score the above list without considering price, I'd probably say... 2 > 5 > 3 > 6 > 4 > 1. I've put the Japanese set last because to most of us it's quite useless.

    Hope this helps!
