    My Outlaw Star Merchandise Quest...thing?

    04/23/2019: Mail Time!

    Here is what came today.....

*I was able to buy both volumes of “Chapter of The Galactic Dragon” for $20 with shipping. Not bad...right? Even if they are a bit over priced, they both came in good (used) condition and both had OBI’s on them.

*Thanks to MANTIS’s internet searching skills & encyclopedia of OS knowledge I was able to scoop up this official scroll!

Take a look and drool over its awesomeness.

Thank you MANTIS for all your help!

    Picture Includes:
    -Official OS Wall Scroll
-Chapter of the Galactic Dragon (Vol. 1)
-Chapter of the Galactic Dragon (Vol. 2)

Those are some pretty good wins! Most notably that wall scroll. I'd consider it ultra-rare as they've just seemed to disappear off the internet. Good job I found it on some weird craigslist clone.

Lookin' forward to your next update!

    My Outlaw Star Merchandise Quest...thing?

    Update 04/25/2019: Mail Time!

Two packages came today and OH BOY are there some treasures in here!

    My Outlaw Star Merchandise Quest...thing?-img_5642-jpg

    Picture Includes:
-CELL of Harry. It looks official.

-Poster. Origins are unknown, I asked MANTIS as well as the seller and neither one of them could confirm where it came from.

-Official “Through the Night” Mini Disc.

-Emotion - See Thru Promo Card. I’m not 100% if this is official or not...MANTIS mentioned that a few stores put out unofficial promotional materials when the show was released. This is either one of those or an official promo card.

-Outlaw Star DVD Memorial Box Set Volumes #1 & #2. MANTIS advised me that this box set was the FIRST ever DVD box set OS released. I can’t remember if it was the first JAPAN release or USA release. The box has both languages printed on it.

    My Outlaw Star Merchandise Quest...thing?

    Update 04.26.2019: Mail Time!

Once again, thanks to MANTIS’s gigantic OS knowledge and direction I was able to obtain......A GIANT BOX!

    My Outlaw Star Merchandise Quest...thing?-img_5653-jpg

This box contains ULTRA JUMP issues #1-34.

    My Outlaw Star Merchandise Quest...thing?-img_5654-jpg

Maybe it’s just me but I feel like I’m looking at the holy grail right now.

Like many of you, I’m still very new to the whole OS universe. Being only aware of the anime, the whole manga world/OS2/doujinshi/etc. are all brand new to me. To my understanding, OS was originally printed in these UJ issues.

AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO THINKS THIS IS BEYOND AMAZING?!? I’m freaking out over here. OS FOLKLORE OVERLOAD!!!!

I started analyzing them today. I’m only a few issues in and I’m already seeing a ton of stuff I’ve never seen before.

***I found 2 FRHS shorts. 77 pages total. I’m not 100% what these are. I don’t own any FHRS so I can’t cross reference them.

***I think that I stumbled onto a “pre” OS 19 page teaser type...thing. Clearly I don’t speak Japanese so I can’t be 100% at this time, but there are character breakdown, photos, SOME English texts, and more that I’ve never seen posted in the mangas....or anywhere else. This looks like something “new”. But don’t quote me on that just yet.

If by chance these look familiar to you, let me know. I’m not expert on OS...but I’m trying to learn. So please inform me if by chance you’ve seen these shots. Remember communication is always a good thing.

Sorry for the lame cell phone photos. I’ll definitely post more in the future.

***I also stumbled onto a two sided OS poster in one of the early issues. Due to its content I need to make a censored version before posting. I never seen this poster before.

I’m unsure how much information will be stored inside these original ULTRA JUMP issues, but I’m beyond happy to add it to the collection and I will 100% keep you posted on my findings.

    Happy day.

Now that's a couple of awesome hauls. I like the Harry cel. I know that frame actually. It's from the episode Mortal Combat with the El Dorado, when Gene infiltrates Harry's ship and interrogates him. Harry is hooked up to the Outlaw Star mainframe and starts to harass Melfina, but when Gene notices the cable he shoots it off, then Harry attempts to draw his gun (the frame in question) before Gene shoots him in the arm. Unfortunately, without that context it just looks like poor Harry is scratching a nasty itch.

As for the poster, that's a pretty generic Outlaw Star promotional image which you'll often find online, but nonetheless it's some nice artwork. I'm not sure of its exact origin.

The trading card isn't unofficial. You see that tiny Easter Island moai at the bottom-right of the card? That happens to be one of Bandai's logos.

Emotion (formerly known as Emotion Music) is an anime publisher and a subsidiary of Bandai. Seemingly the handled some aspects of Outlaw Star's publishing. The image above is the cover of an Emotion "TV music" compilation CD. Technically it could be considered an Outlaw Star soundtrack or at the very least an important piece of merch since it features "Through the Night" and one of the ending themes (I'm guessing "Hiru no Tsuki"), but I haven't bought it yet since it's usually a little pricey. Emotion also released this about nine years ago:

Anyhow, I digress. Those two DVD sets are the first DVDs... ever. They're Japanese sets. I don't think it's very often that first DVD releases end up being some of the nicest looking, but I really like these ones. Plus, the DVDs themselves have some pretty cool extra content, much of which I already put on my channel years back.

Ultra Jump... nice collection. I've certainly reconsidered the issues' importance, especially given the amount of extras that are inside many of them. Also, I've learned a couple of things from your post. Actually, I've stumbled upon that "teaser" before.

This is a rather crude photo of that same pre-manga. Originally I thought this might be from some kind of spin-off after the manga, but now it appears that it was made to promote the manga before it was first published. Meaning this was originally published in 1996, but the photo I've taken is of a 2002 reprint in a doujinshi called SW.

Finally, it suffices to say that were it not obvious enough by Gene boning both Suzuka and Aisha in it, this is most certainly not canon. (Sorry Gene. )
Gene: "Have faith in me guys, enjoy the ride—you're in good hands. I can handle this. I can do it!"
    Jim: "How do you know?"
    Gene: "I don't!"
    Jim: "I knew it."
Gene: "That's okay. There's a first time for everything!"

So if I remember correctly, “mortal combat at the eldorado” has the “come with me, I will never let you be lonely again quote doesn’t it?

If so...how funny is that due to those songs I made. I need to check this out ASAP. If that is true..out of ALLLL the cells I could get, I GET THAT ONE? That’s hilarious if it’s true.

That is awesome news. I was surprised how small the card was. It looks really nice in the clear frame I got for it. I need to snag those EMOTION dvds soon. That packaging is very slick.

SCORE! they are very nice. Inside of one of the booklets I saw one image of melfina that I’m fairly certain isn’t used on other packaging due to her being topless! I can’t remover which book but bug me on Skype tomorrow and I’ll dig.

Double check those page numbers in SW (19 total) and get back to me. Let’s triple check and make sure they are identical. This “pre OS” would be very worthwhile to add to the “list”.

In regards to ULTRAJUMP, I found more things tonight. Nothing ground breaking but a few little images that maybe “new”. I’ll show you tomorrow.

There's fewer than that many pages in this manga short. However, it depends what you're including in those 19 pages. Could you provide images of the first and the last pages you're referring to? Also, I made a mistake. It's not the SW doujinshi, but rather, "About Azell Anecdote" which was released on Christmas Day, 1999.

About Harry, sorry to say this but he doesn't actually speak a word to her in Mortal Combat with the El Dorado. Rather, the quote is from a later episode called Grave of the Dragon. You'd be looking for a cel of Harry standing behind Melfina and holding her shoulders. I actually have a cel from that scene, when Melfina is singing her song ("I don't know what words I can say") shortly before Harry approaches her.
Gene: "Have faith in me guys, enjoy the ride—you're in good hands. I can handle this. I can do it!"
    Jim: "How do you know?"

Good stuff good stuff. With Justin grabbing all this we very well may find more to add to the translation list. I guess you guys are both watching OLS auctions/sales online like hawks. One night when I find some time I'll need to get together with our mystery translator and search online for Japanese OLS resources(websites, fansites, interviews that would be hard to search in English), books, doujins, etc. and see if we can uncover anything with a native speaker at the Google search helm.
