I guess hygiene is most important. People who like/love you will do so regardless of what you wear. I think in terms of work or formal gatherings, it matters but all other times it really doesn't. I basically live in these over sized kimonos right now. I have 5 of them and I just wear them and rotate them. I actually had a compliment on one the other day.

When I was still a teenager, I had a great attachment towards my hair, it was so much that I visit the barbers shop every week. I would give anything to always have a clean haircut.

Growing a goatee added to it because it became my area of attraction, as most of my girlfriend all fancy touching and I actually enjoyed it as well. When it comes to clothes, I don't really worry about it too much but at least I dress good on an average note.

OutlawBard19, when i read the word polo in you post i went like <<hey, i used to wear those, let's try again>>.
I bought one, then looked in the mirror, and remembered why i don't wear them since years.
    Never overestimate mankind.

Come to think of it, a little over a decade ago I did pay a lot more attention to my looks since I was in my late adolescent years. At that time, like many guys I dressed to impress and bought some nice clothes thanks to the job I had, was much more hygienic (showering daily which isn't the case now), but one thing I couldn't seem to get right was my hair. Maybe I just didn't know the right products but my hair always seemed to look at least a bit greasy and it annoyed the hell out of me. It was probably because I had an acne problem since while I still have adult acne now it's quite mild and my hair isn't greasy.

In your youth years you'll care about all of this a lot more. I think that once you approach your thirties (or beyond that) real life will hit you in the face and you'll realise that the "puppy love" that may have still lingered a little in your twenties has now come to a complete halt. Love is no longer so magical and is a longer journey, lacking the spontaneity you once enjoyed. I don't know about women but I believe that a lot of guys whose love life has declined simply feel less need to dress so smartly. Just maintaining a "decent" appearance is fine for a lot of men.

Nowadays I often get short buzz cuts at the barber shop. I'm not trying to impress anyone in particular and next to zero maintenance is far more convenient. Plus, it looks okay in my opinion.
