I was thinking that too! But no, scientists think it's just like those big ears elephants have to help them cool off. Did you know that's part of what they do? It's true. I saw it on a nature show.

The spoiler system surely is nifty. Oh, and when I showed my friend the two rodenty creatures, he decided to share a fennec fox with me. It's not necessarily bizarre, but...It has sort of long ears like the first one, too! I find it interesting (and it's adorable) so I'll share it now:

The wind has a way to talk to me
    Flowers sleep, a silent lullaby
    I pray for reply
    I'm ready"

Aww, that's very cute. It kinda reminds me of Ryo-Ohki for some reason, must be the ears.

I think this thing belongs in here, I've always had a soft spot for these little fellas.

Now that you mention it, Ryo-Ohki does look similar to a fennec fox! I wonder if there's a correlation? Though I always thought Ryo was more of a rabbit...The ears though, yes.

And ah, platapi. Such unusual creatures, yet so very interesting. They're actually a major animal in the US now in terms of use in advertising. One company that's well known here (not sure if it's international or not, but they make quick lunches for kids generally) is using them along with jackalopes (not sure those ones actually exist, though) and regularly have them arguing and such. My favorite is when the two play ping pong...But it's a weird thing to watch.

I had to look those adverts up, they're great. Lunchables, right? We have those over here too, I remember liking the hot dog ones when I was younger, but I haven't seem them in a long time.

    Another one for the thread:

We could probably fill this entire thread up with all the weird sh*t that lurks in the deep sea, come to think of it...

True, there's tons of stuff that swims that we don't think of often- things that are awkward. My favorites are manatees (not so strange)... or narwhals.

Narwhals are cool. I wonder what they use that horn for, or if it's just for show?

These things are not nearly as cute as Kim Possible would have you believe. ._.

It's funny. In the Fallout series they changed a lot of existing animals to make them more suitable and disgusting for a radioactive dystopian world. They didn't have to change those much at all aside from a size increase.

Again, I'm weird and find naked molerats cute. But I find a lot of rats cute. Besides the one that peed on me when it was brought to school for pet day.

That just reminded me of the time I went to look around a college a few months ago, I'd been considering taking a course in animal care and this college was filled with all kinds of different animals (spiders included. ) Anyway, as we were taking the tour (there were about 20 of us in all) I suddenly heard the guy say 'watch your step as there is a loose tortoise', and as I looked down sure enough, there was a tortoise strolling around freely. Guy didn't even pick it up or anything, just... alright.

I stlll don't know what the f*ck they were thinking letting it loose like that, someone could have easily stepped on the poor little guy.

A snapping turtle once randomly appeared in my school's backyard during a recess of sorts when I was a kid, that reminds me. It was a scary day and we were all rushed inside when it started snapping. I forget most of it besides all of us circling around it at first wondering what a turtle was doing at our school. New Jersey isn't actually known for turtles. We are known for deer and bear sightings though. Especially deer. -.-

Another weird animal story: When I was a kid and had a dog, two chipmunks kept stealing his food. It was mostly weird because...Why would chipmunks eat dog food? I was so confused.
