It went pretty well. It was mostly a bunch of boomer discussions, boomer humour and a little Outlaw Star talk. We watched the episode, "Between Life and Machine". Since Starwind55 won't be able to make it next weekend (if I recall correctly) we decided on the upcoming Monday instead. Or was that Monday the 16th? (I guess that makes more sense.)

It's been a while since we've watched a film. I know how Zemekis can be about live action, so how about Space Jam? I haven't watched that since 1996 (it left enough of an impression on 8-year-old me to still remember some of it) and I've been meaning to for years. But I know it's not to everybody's liking, so I'm fine with more Outlaw Star or other ideas.

You forgot the important part of that get together...drunken merriment. I admit I got a bit rowdy but that can make things fun. It was a fun evening to shoot the shit.

I'm only gonna be unavailable on Saturday but Friday and Sunday is doable. I can do Monday as well if you guys are down for 2 get togethers in one week. The more the merrier.

as for watching Space Jam...I'm all for being welcomed to the jam

Outlaw Star if I'm being invited to this one, please.

I haven't seen Space Jam and I'd like to keep it that way. By all means, you guys can go ahead without me! I just don't want to attend knowing that I'd be a total buzzkill. You may be proud of me to know that I just watched a "top 20 movies" video on YouTube to find out what are considered to be some classic movies to see if any would jump out at me as a recommendation for one of our Synclounge nights but alas nothing caught my eye. I did watch 5 trailers afterwards, particularly Bladerunner because I have heard many times that the 80's vibes would suit me.

Off-topic and this just makes me feel bad to say
    I couldn't finish the trailer...

The only film on my list these days is Samurai Cop 2. I think my boss pressuring me to watch so many tv series and David Lynch movies over the past year has made me excessively jaded to the whole idea of watching anything but anime for the next few years. Frankly, it's turned me into a bit of an annoying asshole whenever the topic comes up but I do need to be honest that I'm just not going to watch any movies going forward. It's not just you guys, in fact I enjoy movies the most with you two but this includes with irl friends/family. Heck, watching movies with other people in the room feels like I'm at the Dentist's office, I'm dead serious. Call me autistic or whatever you want but it's just the truth.

But...but...you got to at least watch SGT. Kabukiman NYPD. No one has truly live until they've seen this movie.

But Zem... would you watch Blade Runner if it was an anime adaptation that aside from visuals and voice acting was more or less the same? It arguably has one of the best narratives in science fiction.

It's funny, but to tell you the truth you remind me of my mother. You're like her polar opposite. She never wanted to watch animations. I managed to encourage her to watch a few episodes of Monster. I explained that it isn't childish and seems almost identical to a live action TV show except it being animated. It even has real-style cinematography. This is shown better by how it was super-close to receiving a live action adaptation.

So, she watched a few episodes and ended up watching it until the end... and liking it. Were it not for the visuals and live action's "oh my god, it's the same person in a different story!" aspect, both forms of storytelling often have so much in common.

I might watch it if it were an entirely different art form, yes. That being said I don't care all that much for sci-fi regardless of its medium. I don't know how to explain this other than saying that I just don't enjoy watching actual people act on screen. I've watched hundreds of movies in my life and still don't like them, it's not as if I haven't tried! There's no need to defend movies, i'm not attacking them I just don't like them personally. I totally get why you guys like them and I wish I could too.

As for your Monster story, that's exactly how I got my own mom hooked on anime for a few years but with Death Note instead. But imagine for a second that she watched a few hundred anime (or let's say 50, since anime series are far longer than movies) and she was still telling me she doesn't like them. That would be a more accurate comparison to my situation.

I also don't think I'll be able to make it tonight if you guys are still having your get-together because something came up with my bank. I need to go meet with my mortgage broker around 6:30pm my time. There is a small chance that I'd be home early enough to catch the end of something if you're still on Synclounge by then.

Zem, I'll give you three guesses at something that is sci-fi and is relevant to every member here.

As for everything else, that's fair enough, dude. Different strokes for different folks.

So, are we on, guys? Last get-together didn't happen. Ideally I'd rather do something tonight since I'm not certain yet when I'll be free for the rest of the weekend.

Well sure. I don't care for it much in general but OLS does it so damn good that's part of what makes it extra extra special. I guess my exceptions would be Space Westerns and stuff that is explicitly about Space colonization. I think you're also most likely equating sci-fi to 'space'. Space stuff is my favorite corner of sci-fi, but lots of it doesn't have to do with space at all.

I'm still at work...I'm working late then gotta commute home so I'll probably be too beat. I may hop on Steam to talk a little bit at some point though. Last time took well over an hour to get to the show as well, and while I don't mind talking I don't want to spent too much of my Friday just looking at the Steam homepage again. It was a fun conversation though.

Tomorrow I have a buddy over that you both know. Depending on what he feels like doing we may be good for tomorrow night but I really don't want to promise anything. I've just hit the halfway point on Shenmue 3 and I anticipate that's what he will want to keep rolling with since he's a fan too. If not Shenmue I think we are going to finish a rewatching of Evangelion...
