You cut off the last part of the sentence where I was saying that we need to consider the damage one causes to others. I just feel that people should have as much freedom as possible, but that doesn't extend to hurting others. Because there's no certainty whether or not some people have or will catch the virus, things get murky.

Maybe it's an American way of thinking? Either way, I'm not nonchalant about it, I did think it through and I only decided that it's hard to say how much lockdown is necessary. Perhaps it seems obvious to you that full lockdown is the answer and nobody should question authority, but I don't think so.

The whole situation gives me this kind of vibe at times:

I appreciate that governments around the world are making suggestions and even demands to help people, but I won't call out anyone who questions it either.

I get that. We shouldn't be controlling people's freedoms as it can be a pretty slippery slope. I guess in New York, they will not be arresting people for being in public and "looking sick". Doesn't matter if you are sick or not, if you look sick they will arrest you and fine you. That is just insanity. I think if more people were willing to work together and use preventative measures, everything could go on like usual but a lot of people won't and some don't even care.

Freedom's all well and good in Japan for instance. They have a kind of culture that allows for that. They're a unified society that doesn't depend on actions like handshakes or hugs. Despite the (IMO) stupid idea to proceed with the Olympics, they're handling it really well. On the other hand, westerners are always at each other's throats with this type of thing; dog-eat-dog. (Or worldviews. Most people aren't on same page.) In other words I think people in countries like my own are too disorderly to trust with commitment to the prevention of a pandemic. Fortunately they're talking about a complete lockdown here now. Perhaps instead of just talking for weeks like morons they'll just do it this time.

I think people are getting more used to the idea of social isolation so I don't think they'd take lockdown as badly as a couple of weeks ago. Since we're headed in a worse direction than Italy was, harsh measures are needed if fewer people are going to die.

    I don't normally double-post and probably shouldn't, but...

    Full UK lockdown!

It's about time you grew a pair and put those dense spreaders in their place! (Literally, I hope!)

Would you really expect any form of responsibility from chavs? (Probably the main part of the problem. A disease within a disease.)

As much as I'd like to say "RISE UP!!", this is probably the time to say "SIT DOWN!!" to the morons who can't make a few sacrifices for the greater good. They fail to realise that the more they put up with these inconveniences, the sooner life will return to normal.

I can't wait for stuff to go back to normal. Well, things are pretty normal for me as I'm one of the few "Essential workers" the difference being that we're just discouraged from interacting with one another at work.

I don't know if it was updated but the Olympics have been postponed for 1 year. They will not be having it this year so that is a good thing.

I am happy they decided to cancel it for now. Too high of a risk.

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach agreed to postpone the Tokyo Games until no later than the summer of 2021, according to a tweet from the prime minister's office.

You and me both. I want all this damn crap to be over with so I can go back to hanging out at bars with my buds. That's going to be one of the first things I plan on doing once this corona bullshit blows over. I'm in the same boat as you since my job is considered an essential business but they are still trying to get the majority of us to work from home, me included.
