There are options but at what cost? You start using paper straws and more trees need to be cut down. That is actually going to harm the planet more in the longterm of everything. I use plastic straws for only one thing and that is soda simply because it can stain and damage teeth if you drink it straight from a can, bottle, or cup. I don't drink it daily so it isn't a huge concern for me. I am more than willing to wash and reuse straws that are better quality, not that big of a deal.

The problem is, a lot of places like coffee shops, fast-food joints, and so on rely on them. They offer drinks that are typically acidic and will destroy any biodegradable paper straw on the market. At least that is the case here in America.

I just find the whole thing silly. I think we need to make a change back to glass for certain products. It is safer, cleaner, and 100% recyclable. I don't know why they made the change to begin with. Likely down to cost. Remember back in the day even milk was purchased in nothing by glass? Some things were left better unchanged.

I agree, Korin. Glass is an excellent material to make consumer goods out of because it's effectively just melted rock (which we have plenty of). The use of both paper and plastic come with some serious downsides. I would love to see more things bottled.
