As to the current US-NK situation, it makes me laugh.
Nothing to fear, it's just the diplomatically incompetents that bark louder than usual.

I'm really against using nuclear warheads and I was referring to Atom Bombs in my previous post. What my previous post meant was if the US dropped atomic bombs in both communist China and North Korea then Asia would be safe now and that there wouldn't be a Kim threatening the world of nuclear destruction. There would be no Communist China conquering islands in the Pacific and declaration that the whole China Sea is theirs. The best defense after all is a great offense.

I really hope they kill each other, why make nuclear bombs if you are not going to use them. These fucking Asians and Americans need to fucking die and leave the rest of us out of their BS!

They're a deterrent. Why does a farmer buy guard dogs and a shotgun? While deaths occur they're extremely rare, and these two things exist to tell trespassers they might die if they interfere with the farmer, etc. Sometimes they do release the hounds, but they'll nearly always fire warning shots instead of aiming at the trespasser.

Long-winded analogy aside, I don't think Kim truly wants war. North Korea wanted to be left alone more than anything. So, to ensure that they developed a nuclear programme of their own. Expectedly though it's drawn more attention to the country than ever. Just a couple of days ago Kim agreed to a "denuclearisation", but with a condition. They want assurances they won't be bothered by the United States ever again. Even so, it's no easy process. It can take years.

It's not just the US and North Korea that have nukes and a seemingly itchy trigger finger. If you wanna complain about nukes, talk to Putin.

Hell, we may be a small island, but Britain has hundreds of nuclear warheads and a sub. In some odd way I see nuclear weapons as a necessary evil. If we had them during World War II we wouldn't have faced the Blitz. Though having said that, we didn't really know about atomic bombs, nukes, etc. United States took care of that with Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Dreadful times, but if there's any silver lining it's that we have documented proof of why we really shouldn't use nukes in a time when they're dozens of times more powerful.

tl;dr: Nuclear arsenals are really just a dick-waving contest. We know the extent of the damage. Ironically they can help prevent conflicts.

Since the position with Kim has changed between Korea and the US, how does everyone feel about this now?

More worried? Less worried? I am just curious.

For me it's just the diplomatically incompetent that bark a bit less. No change.
And it also makes me laugh because the US want NK to back off about nuclear weapons when they withdraw from the iranian deal.
How do you want to have any credibilty after that ?

I think Silver's right here. It was interesting to see the two leaders shake hands, but really, not a huge deal has changed. Ideally I'd like to see NK and SK make proper, lasting peace and to see them merge into a single Korea in a similar fashion to how West/East Germany merged. Of course, it's a long process and all we can do is speculate for the time being.

I agree with Mantis, it's really just a deterrent at this point. But i also worry that if we ever see a situation in which one side is about to lose all hope of victory....what stops them from pushing the button?

This nuclear clock thing is bullshit. It's just another clickbait apocalypse shit such as the maya "calendar".
Or if you want to believe it's not that much of a scam, then think about the octopus "medium" of fifa.
It's a prophecy scam that's it, and i would love to slap those "scientists" you're talking about.
Also there is no "good" powers, and there has never been a time when only those had nuclear power.
USSR doesn't exist anymore, it's the Russian Federation. Also why woud China or Russia be any more likely to fuck up or have bad intentions that the US ?
Spoiler alert, there is Nothing to back it up, the US is just as dangerous and has the same kind of intention than Russia or China, or any state of than size, power, and level of ideological indoctrination. Because yes, the US is just as much a big bad wolf as former USSR, China, nazi germany, or colonialist (XVI-XXe century) european countries.

Oh and for the "gof forbid, we just pray it's a limited one" if you want to bring religion in this, just remeber the WW1 saying :
<<Every man for himself and god against everybody>>. That's the kind of despair religion brings in war.
