Ah, Laputa. Great stuff. I've seen a few of those but many I have not. Great compilation and I've added a bunch of them to my list.

Yesterday I watched the Final Fantasy VII OVA, "On the Way to a Smile: Episode Denzel" which I thought was pretty well done. As for series, I started watching a few lately but I hate switching between series, so I'll need to decide soon...

My current anime series I am watching is Ergo Proxy and rewatching FLCL.
Ergo Proxy is a REALLY confusing and intelligent anime. I would highly recommend it to anyone wants to think about life and religion. Dont ask me to explain it cause I havent finished watching it. Wiki it.

I'm towards the end of Zegapain now. It was made by Takehiko Ito, the creator of Outlaw Star. It's good, but nothing spectacular.

I watched ergo proxy not long ago, it holds one of my favorite anime openings and I can definitely agree with your description Amarante. Since you haven't fished it yet I will warn you now. It has one of the most random filler episodes that somehow acually manages to get tied into the main story. I hated it so, but maybe you will enjoy it. As of now I recently finished .//hack sign and am now currently watching .//hack roots

    RE: Current Anime Series?

Tonight I started watching the Read or Die OVA. Most annoying female protagonist I've probably seen (admittedly I haven't seen half as many series as some people) and I think this has set a new boredom record.

No, even that is overly generous. The meter would have imploded. Time to move onto something else. Oh, and Zegapain was pretty decent. Not the best series in the world but worth watching.

    RE: Current Anime Series?

I actually haven't watched any new Anime's in about.....geez, 5+ years! The only two I have watched, actually I should say, RE-watched, was Outlaw Star (duh!) and Princess Mononoke.

    However...

I was recently cleaning up less than a week ago in my room and while I was looking into my closet, I found an Anime DVD that my friend long ago lent me to watch. Unfortunately, him and I aren't friends anymore. But he never did ask for his DVD back, SOOooo... I got a free full-length series of the anime.

Long story short, the Anime I am currently watching is Full Metal Panic!
I'm not really into the whole "stereotypical" anime's but it really isn't that bad.

I just finished the first season and they had two "series" afterwards. The Fumoffu and The Second Raid. I am currently near the end of the Fumoffu series but I will say that unless you want a comedy and sort of "filler" episodes, you don't need to watch the Fumoffu series since it really doesn't pertain to the actual story. It's just episodes of the main character doing his mission in comical ways and to be honest, you could watch the episodes in the Fumoffu series in any order (wouldn't advise to go out of order but you could) because it doesn't have a linear story within those.

But once I get to The Second Raid I will be sure to tell you all how it is overall.

Update: Just finished watching the entire series and boy was that a nice run while it lasted...shame it ended in a way that I wish wasn't anticipated. But The Second Raid series of it is a LOT more adult-themed than the other two. I went from watching the first series with some action and comedy into the second series which was pure comedy to the third one which was full on brutal and more adult-oriented. The anime in its entirety isn't bad at all. But they need to make a 4th series damnit!

Another update to prevent double posts: Just finished watching Elfen Lied and now on the mission to watch the movie The Girl Who Leapt Through Time

    RE: Current Anime Series?

At last, I'm watching Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. Unfortunately it suffices to say I'm disappointed. Really disappointed. I enjoyed Fullmetal Alchemist enough to rate it 9/10. Brotherhood would get 6/10 so far if I'm generous. Though it's been years since I've seen the original series, it got the occasional "chibi" scene, which is when the characters are portrayed in a cute and retarded way to illustrate a comedic event. For instance, rarely but sometimes Outlaw Star has these.

The original Fullmetal Alchemist had its limits. You wouldn't see these silly animations in more serious episodes, but I'm sure (if the rule for counting each chibi animation is one appearing after switching back to normal animation) in each episode there have been at least twenty, if not thirty or more in some cases. And then there are jokes about the main character being short. Both of these are tolerable in the original series because they're used at a rate to actually find them a little funny.

I'm finding it hard to take Brotherhood seriously, and the story is meant to be pretty damn serious at times. I won't give any spoilers, but even for a teenage audience anime, the original had some pretty disturbing parts. Since this is a remake it's kept some of those parts in it, though I hear it's more based on the manga which could explain the annoyingly excessive chibi animations. Either way, the person who made such a stupid decision should be shot! Although I've only watched ten episodes so far, the soundtrack isn't as good and isn't used as appropriately.

I don't know how much more of this I'm going to watch. I think I'll watch until episode twenty and then make a decision on whether I want it to ruin what I loved about the original series and instead stop watching it, or if it actually gets better and the stupid chibi stuff is reduced, continue.

There's a difference between having a good sense of humour and laughing like a moron at retarded animations and unfunny jokes.

Instantly made me think of this.

Haha. I think I might give Bleach a serious attempt. I watched about a dozen episodes and was really getting into it. Unfortunately, I hear that after The Soul Society Arc, it turns to complete sh*t.

Anyway, what watched last night was parts 1-3 of "Urotsukidoji"

If you're under 18, don't even think about it.

Anyway, I had heard a lot of bad stuff about this OVA. It's notorious for being full of rape and ultra-violence. I decided to give it a serious look, because I can easily look past that. While this is technically a hentai movie, I did find that the sex/rape scenes were all too frequent, and a lot of the time absurd. it was almost comedic. The violence is pretty bad, but it's also a horror movie, so there was about as much gore as I expected.

Behind the obscene surface layer, this is actually a pretty decent movie
and the animation is pretty good for it's time. It does take a while for the plot to properly unfold, but I'll admit, I was surprised by it. It goes a little something like this:

Every 3000, the Overfiend is supposedly brought to life to bring together the 3 worlds in peace (Beast world, Demon world, Human world). The main character, a Beast-man named Amano Jyaku want's to find the Overfiend and make sure that this happens. Only it turns out the Overfiend is an incompetent and lecherous teenager named Nagumo.

    -SPOILERS-

A bunch of violence and rape happens, then Amano takes Nagumo to the Beast world elder to see if he really is the Overfiend. The elder flips out and calls him a monster. This confuses Amano, as he is 100% certain that Nagumo is the Overfiend. After Nagumo blows his load inside his girlfriend, this somehow triggers the transformation, and he turns into a giant Demon, who is supposed to break the barriers between the 3 worlds.

    -PLOT TWIST-

To Amano's surprise, all he does is start blowing everything up and killing a bunch of people. It turns out that the true Overfiend is the baby that has just been planted in Nagumo's girlfriend. Nagumo is supposed to cleanse the earth before the unification of the 3 worlds, because the Overfiend did not like what humanity had become.

Parts 4 and 5 are on the second disc and are supposed to wrap that up, So I'll let you know once I've watched it.

If you are going to watch this, Watch the Japanese version. I unwittingly purchased the english dub, which on top of being incomplete, also has a whopping 45 minutes of footage cut from it.
