Nothing has changed since my post on the first page of this thread. Outlaw Star's in first (duh) and Monster takes second place. Maybe I should watch more anime lately. I thought Terror in Resonance was great but it doesn't make the top five.
In the future I hope I'll see "from the creator of TERROR IN RESONANCE".
Ajin is so underrated and overlooked.

As much as I love Outlaw Star, dramas and thrillers are brilliant. I find it's anime produced for a more adult audience that's less clichéd. I suppose they simply know what shonen fans will buy, especially nowadays.
Currently I'm really digging Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. (binging it on Hulu) I love the setting, the style, and the plots. It's very "adult" without falling into immature "adult" tropes, or sacrificing all sense of humor. (There's tons of fun bits, but it's more dry and subtle.)
But my favorite is probably Rurouni Kenshin. It pulls off drama, romance, action, and philosophy in a way a lot of Shonens fall short at. I love Kenshin, the characters, their relationships with each other, and the theme of peace after a revolution, and the ghosts of that revolution still hanging over the people.
It's also one of the few animes out there where I genuinely enjoy the filler. >_>
Life is demanding, without understanding.
While I have seen many good ones since then my current favorite anime still has to be Barakamon. It just so damn wholesome and fun. I never tire of re-watching it.
As of now, DBS but that was the most recent one I saw that was new to me. So I guess that qualifies though I am awaiting the next series release which I am hoping happens this year but doesn't seem likely.
I don't really have an absolute favourite, but I loved Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet, Snow White With the Red Hair and Cowboy Bebop.
The 12 Kingdoms was great too, but I really do wish that they tied up all the loose ends. I don't like it when a show ends and then they expect you to read the source material to find out what happens next.
Somehow I never posted in this thread?? Reading the OP, it's not about our favorite of all time but the one that impressed us most recently...hmm.
One doesn't really stick out. In the past year I've seen quite a bit but no life-changers. Perfect Blue was very good, and half of Lain was good. The only one that really springs to mind in recent years would be Inuyashiki (No, not InuYasha). I've never seen anything quite like it:
