That's completely different because the mouth movements aren't an animation—they're real. It nearly always looks bad. Also, the actors/actresses will be acting their roles by moving, obviously. If the scene is exhausting, that will be demonstrated through their voice.

Believe me, anime dubs in the US are much better. You should be grateful. Those in other countries have it much worse because the studios that handle localisation are on a much lower budget.
Ah, I didn't know you guys get mostly U.S. dubbed anime. I'd be interested to give British dub a try lol.

I guess there is also a personal taste factor in the play. I like it original even it means I have to pause it to read sometimes. I indeed like quite a few Japanese voices. Ukyou from Ranma 1/2 for example, very cute voice. I had a crush on that character when I was younger haha ! That's the same voice actress for that insurance girl in Trigun, as well as Burma in DBZ.

Generally prefer dubs when it comes to anime. As Mantis said: "Subbed anime doesn't have some kind of magical property, and dubbed usually sounds fine."

Something that really gets on my ****ing nerves is being told (usually by some self-loathing weeaboo on the internet... where else?) that in any case with anime, subs are 'superior' in every way to dubs. No they're ****ing not, it depends entirely on who's providing the subs or dub. Stop trying to be some sort of world authority on entertainment, and just **** off.
"It turned out that the ghost was just Mr. Finley, who ran the amusement park. The spooky part is that, as soon as the ghost appeared, the teenagers' dog began to speak! And it spoke in a tortured parody of human speech: 'relp me, Raggy,' it would say. 'I am an abomination and rould re rilled. Rill re, Raggy.'"

RE: Do you like subtitles or dubbed when watching anime?

I picked dubs, but I'm not really a lazy reader. Under the right circumstances, I will marathon a subbed anime, and keep track of it very well, but that's only if I'm not doing anything else at all. When it comes to watching things in general, I don't tend to give the TV 100% attention of my eyes. I like to let my ears do a lot of the work, too. With subbed anime, it's hard to even eat while watching.

While I can appreciate the fact that a lot of stuff tends to get changed, plot-wise for dubs, I don't really care enough to watch the series again in Japanese. The knowledge of the alterations alone is enough for me. There are of course some cases where the dub is horrific, such as Yu-Gi-Oh!, where they pretty much mutilated every aspect of it, but I feel like sub fans treat all dub as if they were this bad. Dubs, as a whole, are just fine and companies like 4Kids are the exception that proves the rule.

Also, Majin, I feel I should point out, in case you weren't aware, that "UK Dub" isn't an accurate term for the AB Groupe (aka "Big Green") movie dubs of DBZ. They were actually dubbed in the Netherlands, and released in the UK and Ireland as well as there. The reason the characters sound odd is because it's generally believed that the actors were french speakers, and it's known that the script was adapted from the french version, by the same company.

It is a bit different in translation from the version I saw.
However, how come I don't hear the usual British accent?

Secondly, there's no such thing as "the usual British accent". Britain has many accents, and you might not recognise some as being British if you hear them.

Gene: "That's okay. There's a first time for everything!"

    Ok, I get it.
Do you guys get any (real) UK dubbed anime over there at all?

I had no idea about there is such huge differences in accent within UK. Everyone used to sound the same to me in the movies and the video games.

From what I read on ANN a lot if not most of the English dubs are done here in the US and shipped to other English speaking countries. As for accents Ram think about here in the US alone. We have southern, valley girl, Long Island and so on and so forth. Top Gear UK is great when they talk to the audience or random people on their travels across England.
We are all insane, we just act normal for the sake of others.

Of course there is quite a huge difference in different accents in the U.S. But UK is a much smaller place, people must be not traveling much for a long time in order to develop different accents.
